As I have said before, I am playing the Lizardmen army because my 8 year old son loves them. I haven't played WHFB since 6th edition, and have never played LM at all. After many hours of reading and reviewing battle reports, I feel like this army will meet 3 requirements:
1. The boy will like it. I have a dual Carnosaur list because my 8 year old loves the model so much. He really loves Kroq-Gar, and if this was still 6th edition I would take him (I don't have a 7th ed book, but he seemed better in 6th). So my plan is to make one of the models Kroq-Gar and just proxy him for a non-Kroq-Gar Old Blood. I also have two Bastilladons, as more dinosaurs equals more awesomeness to an 8 year old.
2. The army will be fun to play. The last time I played, Magic was a lot different than it is now. Even if I load up on magic, it seems like I will be at the mercy of the dice gods too much for my liking. This is why I love Dwarves, because magic is fickle but runed cannons are not. So I am thinking of running a magic light army.
3. The army will not get slaughtered. I don't expect to win every match, or even most matches. Especially as I am still learning / relearning the rules. Oh, I also will have a mini-general with me who I am sure will want to "help" make decisions, such as which unit of small things his dinosaurs will go eat... That said, I am very competitive, and I hate to lose constantly, so as long as I can pull off a 40% win rate or so, I will be happy.
That said, let's get to the list:
Lords:
Old Blood
Carnosaur
Loping
Bloodroar
GW
Crown of Command
Armor of Destiny
Dragon helm
I think I can take the Crown of command (a talisman) and the Dragon Helm (Armor) Is this true?
Heros:
Scar Vet
BSB
GW
Carnosaur
Loping Stride
Light Armor
Talisman of Preservation
Skink Priest
lvl2
scroll
beasts
Skink Priest
Cube
beasts
If I am not mistaken, only taking a magical banner prevents a BSB from taking other magical items, right?
Core:
30 Saurus
Musician/Standard
Spears
21 Skink Cohort
Poison
Standard
20 Skink Skirmishers
Javelin
20 Skink Skirmishers
Javelin
The 21 Skink Cohort is because I planned on 20, but then I had an extra 7 points.
Special:
Bastilladon
Solar Engine
Bastilladon
Solar Engine
4 Ripperdactyls
4 Terradons
Flying Warmachine hunters that are also pretty cool looking dinosaurs.
As of now, I have the Battalion box and 2 priests. I picked up the Battalion for $80, which seemed like a good price even though I don't currently have plans to use the Cold Ones or the Temple Guard at the moment. Next I will purchase the first of the Carnosaur models, and if this list looks pretty decent, I should have it bought and assembled (not painted) by September.
Thoughts, hints, critiques?
Total cost 2500 points exact
