8th Ed. 2495 point Tourney List, Trying to be competitive

I'm trying to put together a strong list for this months tourney. I would appreciate any feedback you might have on my list. Without further adieu.

Slann- Harmonic Convergence, Focus of Mystery, Channeling Staff
Oldblood- Stegadon Helm, Dawnstone, GW, CO

Skink Priest- Dispel Scroll, Lore of Beasts
Scar-Vet- BSB, Talisman of Preservation, Enchanted Shield, Light Armor
Scar-Vet- CO, GW, Armor of Destiny
Scar-Vet- CO, GW, Armor of Fortune, Iron Curse Icon, Luckstone

30 Saurus Warriors- Music, Standard
10 Skink Skirmishers
10 Skink Skirmishers

8 Chameleon Skinks

3 Salamanders

Total- 2493pts

All characters except the skink priest will join the saurus warriors. That unit should be able to smash most things in combat. I will try to use the skink skirmishers to slow things down and pick my match ups. Chamo Skinks to hunt monsters and war machines. Salamanders to hunt hordes and panic low leadership units. That is my plan anyway. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

How are you gonna get your movement 4 block into combat?

It will most likely be the last thing I deploy, so I can kind of set my match ups that way. Other than that, walk between worlds should assist me in getting the unit into the thick of things.

You need templeguard or your slann would be sniped! To much characters and 1 unit of salamanders would be enough!

Why would the slann get sniped? He will get a look out sir. I have decided to drop one salamander from each unit and use the points to put in a bastiladon.

Not that hard, you must place your slann in the front rank if it is no templeguard unit.. So charge all hits against the slann!

How will the Slann be in the back? It's only Temple Guard where he sets back in the unit

Would swap stegadon helm for armor of destiny on the oldblood. Just take the 5+ ward and Dragon helm on that scar vet or something. The oldblood isn't getting a look out sir, and is the only consistently good cannon target in the army, so running a ward save on it is almost required.

A bit too many points invested in salamanders imo. Currently, they are only really useful against infantry, so running too many of them might drag you down against many lists (Namely WoC and Empire). I only ran 3 (in 2 units) in the old book, and the same has worked quite well for me in the current one I found that more mass in the combat blocks was more beneficial than more potential damage with the fire.

Saurus are a bit small for a deathstar as well. You really want a minimum of 40 models for something like that.

You are incredibly vulnerable to any sort of durable chaff, such as chariots, that your skinks can't immediately shoot out, because there is only one major threat in your army, and death sniping followed up by high armor saves (Warriors of chaos) will cause you an immense amount of trouble.

High elves with a WL deathstar will be incredibly tough, seeing as how Salamanders will likely be shot off the board by the bolt throwers/archers rather quickly, and even if they aren't, it is unlikely that they will do enough damage to the WL unit for you to beat it in combat.

You might want to split the 16 chameleons into 3 units, for more board pressure, and potential ability to snipe more warmachines/monsters.

Not a bad list by any means, but be aware of your weaknesses.
Having only 1 combat block is going to make it incredibly hard to control the game. If you get flanked, or run into something that is able to beat that unit down in combat (Such as Trolls, or certain other Deathstars), the game could end immediately.

i'd suggest dropping one unit of 3 sallies for an ancient steg, and 1 unit of chameleon skinks for terradon riders.


the steg adds a much needed punch and sharpened horns is disgustingly good.


16 chameleon skinks is just overkill, which is why i'd drop half. with those points i'd go with either venusaur with solar beam or terradons. with 50 skirmishers you have a good amount of redirecting, so the terradons might be redundant, but bastiladons can be a bit slow if your solar cannon doesn't do much (which it should most times).


either way looks like a pretty standard competitive list. not much else to say. if you can use your skirmishing units well you should have at least a fair chance to win every game.

Well, I won two of three games and came in third. Not bad considering my slann got dimensional cascade and was sucked into the warp twice. The first game it happened turn one on the first spell he cast. My thoughts on the list are that it is a solid list but my dual carnosaur list is far more fun.
