Hey all - I've been away from Warhammer for quite a while, but I'm trying to get it going again at my FLGS. Based on the new book and what I've got, I was thinking of trying out this army list to start:
Pts 2400
Lords and Heroes:
Slann w/ Becalming Cognition, Harmonic Convergence, Channeling Staff, BSB, Standard of Discipline; (Lore of Light)
Scar Vet w/ Carnosaur, Spear, Sh, Armor of Destiny
Skink Priest w/ dispel scroll (Lore of Beasts)
Core:
25 Saurus, Hw/Sh, FC
24 Saurus, spears, FC
10 Skink Skirmishers, Jav/Sh
10 Skink Skirmishers, blowpipes
Special:
Bastiladon, Ark of Sotek
3 Terradons
Rare:
Ancient Stegadon w/ Sharpened Horns
Ancient Stegadon w/ Sharpened Horns, Engine of the Gods
The general plan is to have the Saurus march up the middle supported by the Engine Steg, Bastiladon, one unit of skirmishers, and Slann or Skink priest (not sure how necessary it is having the priest near the Saurus, given Predatory Fighter). This leaves the normal Steg, Scarnosaur and Slann/Priest and the other skirmishers on a flank, and Terradons dealing with anything that looks remotely like a cannon.
I realize it's not optimized - no Salamanders, no Temple Guard, no Cowboy, only 1 priest, and an Engine - but it uses the models I have, and it looks fun.
My big question is, given that I haven't played with the new book and I have very little experience with 8th in general, is there anything in particular that jumps out as horrendously, unforgivably bad?
Other questions include:
Should I stick with Lore of Light, or go with High Magic and take Focus of Mystery? (dropping the Standard of Discipline and Sharpened Horns on the Engine Steg to afford it)
Would a single normal stegadon be more useful than one of the ancients (possibly EotG), thus freeing up some points?
