8th Ed. 2400 pts tournament list comments appreciated

I have a tournament coming up with the latest errata rules (so 50% lords/heroes). Please let me know what you think of the list.

I chose WD on my slann because it gives me a great tool box and i have to say that I personally have had more success with WD than loremaster high magic (maybe that's just because of the way I play). I find myself relying on searing doom and spirit leech quite a lot after I try to draw out a few power dice with fireball and burning gaze. Later in the game this will switch to hexes and buff spells.

Old bloods will be in the saurus unit and the one on cold one can charge out when needed (or hide somewhere else if I play against an army with cannons). Slann will be in skirmisher unit or against a fast opponent in the saurus unit (with full command and 1 or 2 saurus characters the slann will go in the second rank).

Hello,

looks rather balanced and competitive already so not much to comment on.

Just couple of things that popped to my mind: I might try to find the points somewhere to replace the equipment on the second oldblood so that he would also have 4+ ward save. I think it should give him much more protection than just one use only rerollable 1+ asv.

The other thing is that since you already have wyssans on your slann, I would much rather see the skink using heavens. This is mainly because your slann will soak up quite a lot of power dice and wyssans is actually rather tough to cast for just a level 1 priest.

Seems pretty decent, i am just partial about the second cold blood, i think an extra point of toughness with the helm might help him moor when combined with a wardsave, if you then give him a GW he should be fine in the prolonged combats you want him and his unit in. Also, if you do intend to fly your Skink Chief solo, give him the charmed shield to stop the odd bolt thrower/cannon ball to kill him in turn one instead of the dragonbane gem as he is not flamnable. I take it you want to use him as a support in charges or as a warmachine hunter when applicable?

As a final point, why don't you combine the two small Skrox units into one big one, i think they will be able to dish out more punishment due to being better at getting it, and you get more ranks.

Some meta calls, how do you think you will handle a Nurgleprince? I think the best way in our book(even though its very poor) is High magic loremaster, Arcane Unforging the dragonbane gem, and then Searing Doom. I see no way to handle or even stall that guy in this list, and as that model is extremely overpowered at this point (last tourney i went to had 50% WOC players) you just should have at least some plan to take him on.

I quite like the skink chief how he is with a 2+ amour save and with the dragon bane gem he can soak up a magic missile.

Nurgle daemon price is gonna be tricky. Maybe a lucky spirit leech and hope to lock him in combat with my old blood on cold one.

It is true that a lot of magic missiles are flaming, Shems burning gaze, Arcane unforging, Fireballs, Searing doom, so a dragonbane gem will do a lot. I always run mine with charmed shields because i have lost to many solo skinks to bolt throwers and the like.

Against a Nurgeprince that will never be enough, just know that he will be impossible to kill. He kills any oldblood build we have 70% of the time, and spirit leech is situational at best. Well, just to keep you informed.

I've killed a nurgle daemon prince in a challenge with Gor-rok twice, but thats if you are allowed special characters.
The -1 to hit actually helps Gor rok out as he rerolls misses and needing a 5 or 6 to hit means all hits are preditory fight, so you actually end up hitting quite a lot. Ok I think I did get quite lucky both times to be fair, but the prince does need 4's to wound, so you only need a little bit of luck on your side, and both times the daemon prince started the combats with -1 wound due to failed dangerous terrain rolls, never fortget them

I'm also entering a tournament and I'm curious to see how yours performs. Post some results if you can as I've been struggling to beat competitive lists with Lizardmen due to their curse of being balanced...

I don't see any glaring holes, but I am curious if you've had success with the Skink chief with the Egg. It feels like a lot of extra risk, on a super squishy (despite a good save) solo hero that can fail on epic proportions. You could run an entire extra Scar Vet:

- Charmed Shield (you only need to dodge one cannon ball)
- Spear

Or if you shed some skinks from the skroks unit, you can run a battering ram build that dies just as easily to a cannon as your skink chief, but is far better at staying in one place holding someone down. T6 is a bear for a lot of opponents and on the charge you get 4 str 6 attacks, and the D3 Str 5, which averages out to a more reliable number than the chief with an egg.

The flying skink chief and the cowboys have different roles. In the battle i played tonight, my solo skink chief killed a Hellpit(down to its last 2 wounds, i blasted the rest of it with the egg) and then he continued to kill 2 warp lightning cannons. This is ofcourse a far above average streak, but your vowboy could have never done that due to the fact that he is not flying. You need strong warmachine hunters when you have dino's, and this little skink does just that with. He also carries a bomb with him, and it's always fun when it goes off, but as long as he kills one warmachine i say job well done.
