7th Ed. 2250 tourny help

hey guys... i got a tourney coming up this weekend and was hoping you guys could help me out. i just don't want to get massacred... this will be my first tourney with LM. in this tourney, i know that players usually bring dwarfs, daemons, vampires, beastmen, Lizzies, Elves (all of them), and so on. so there is a variety of armies i will have a chance of playing.

Please keep in mind that i would love to bring a slann but i don't have that model. Also, currently i do not have any terradons, chameleons, or kroxigors. ( i have a special order coming in for kroxigors and terradons right now, but it won't come in time for tourney).

(still debating if i should separate into its own unit, what do you guys think?)


i was thinking that i do have the option to swap out the cold one riders with a stegadon. do you guys think i should do that?? how is my magic?? i want to use it for dispell purposes. these guys who bring vampires and daemons usually bring about 12 PD. do you guys think i stand a chance??

Please keep in mind that i believe in this tourney all characters must challenge. so if you have any thought on what i should do please do not hesitate. and also if you have any tactics that i might find useful please let me know. Thanks!!!

Your army should be fine to withstand the magic of the undead or daemons. Just a heads up though, your BSB can't take a shield (the mirrored if I'm not mistaken). As you already have a stegadon (EotG), then stick with your COC. My suggestion would be to take your BSB off the CO and place him in your centre. Your saurus with spears should be able to hold their own, but if the enemy breaks through your centre then you will have tough luck pulling through. By have your BSB in the centre of your force, you will have the best use out of it. Otherwise your army looks could, a hard centre, two hard flanks, and a good selection of "sacrificial" units.

Erm, what? Of course he can take a shield, there is nothing preventing BSBs from taking shields....

My suggestion would be to take your BSB off the CO and place him in your centre. Why wouldnt he be able to have the scar vet in a Saurus unit in the center if he is on a Cold One? There is not reason in the world to take a Scar Vet on foot unless you want to use the Jag charm.

The army looks pretty solid, but against a 12 PD list you will have trouble. 6 DDs and a Scroll will last a turn or two, then things are going to go south. I'd take at least another scroll caddy for 7 DDs and 3 Scrolls if I were playing 12 PD armies (or the Slann ofc, with Cogitation). In such a competative environment I think the Slann would do much better (assuming you have a slann model). I like Cold One Riders more then stegs as they are cheaper, faster and more importantly: they are not useless in the second round of combat. Stegadons are beasts when charging, but against unbreakable armies like VC and DoC you will most likley not completly wipe the opponent unless you totally zerg a unit, and in the 2nd round of combat the CoC has 15 S4 attacks while the Steg is stuck at 4 S5 attacks and some crappy skink attacks. The steg also pays a lot for terror that is useless against those armies. If you have the models for it you could and should bring a 2nd engine. Another +2 DDs would help immensly and twinlinked Burning Alignment is amazing against deamons and undeads.

Well, thanks for the comments... I think my list will be fine against other opponents but you guys guessed it right, i'm worried more about VC and Daemons more just in case i actually move up. I don't have the slann model, and if i did then i would use him, but i guess for this tourney it is better to use the carno seeing how all characters must challenge.

My Scar-vets will be in each of the saurus blocks. i do plan on having the EotG in the middle and having a block on each side of it. the BSB will go on the left side of the EotG and the other vet will go in the other one. I guess when you come to think about it, COC would be better in the 2nd round and i never really thought about 15 S4 attacks, so that's a good confidence booster. My plan probably would be to have the COC in the flank of the right block and salamanders in the flank of the BSB. I plan on running the Carno to the side that i find more threatening.

My question is, with my set up of the Oldblood (Scimitar and Malming Shield) how well will he stand up against other characters? and who should he stay away from? Thanks!

You're wrong. Anyone who knows the rules can back me up on this, read the Lizardmen army book, a BSB can take the EXACT same mundane items as a regular Scar Vet.

You are right and wrong at the same time. Some armies like the Wood elves can't give a sheild to the BSB. It states in the army book and only the army book. Each army is different. The Lizardmen book doesn't say "BSB can't be armed with a shield" So if it doesn't say you can't do it and there isn't a FAQ update then a shield can be used by BSB. Once again it changes form army to army. I'm guessing LM are your second army as they are mine or you just over looked this. No worries we all make errors

ok, that makes a whole lot of sense now. lizardmen are my first army, but i must have overlooked it. thanks for the clarification. i just always assumed that the battle standard took up one hand. thanks.

hey well, i finished up my tourney.

i played an all chaos troll list. basically pts wise, i massacred him . but due to scenario vp, it was a draw.

I played DE, and again, massacred him and killed his 2 hydras , but because i didn't read the WHOLE scenario it was a draw again.

i played DE again and this time i wasn't so lucky. i got massacred this time but due to my mistakes on a lot of things.

but this list turned out to be pretty good. VERY COMPETITIVE.
JUST READ THE WHOLE SCENARIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as for the shield you guys are talking about, i use army builder and it allowed it. so i guess i can a shield if that helps clarify anything.

• Did you find it difficult dealing with magic? Was there a magic cap in the tournament?
  How did you use the SCOR? Did you give them charachter support and if you did how much?
  Did you find that you had enough mobility get where you wanted?
  Did you separate the salamanders?
  Did you like your Oldblood set up?

Thanks for your input, I've been running a very similar list. I've done alright with it but in general I've found that I'm much too timid with my OB cause he is so expensive.

  there was no magic cap. the first two players brought about 6-8 PD, so with my scroll and DD, i thought that i was okay. i also was trying to kill one of their wizards quickly because it does help. but besides that it wasn't that bad. now the last player had at least 10 PD and 2 bound items. so that was difficult to deal with but that's not a usual thing to see in every match anyways.

  in 2 of my matches i just let them roam free by themselves. in one battle i thought it'd be best to put my bsb with them to challenge the two hydras because the bsb had a flaming attacks. its basically on opinion with that. i would go head on with units that i knew i had CR on already and units that were down/weak. i also used them as flankers and they made me proud. well worth the points.

  yep! i mean they move 7 and march 14, if you get to go first, i'd make a normal move. then charge in turn 2 if the unit in front of them is easy enough to take out.

  no, one unit and this does help when they get charged

honestly, my oldblood never fought, because my carno killed everything before the oldblood could do anything. and people do get surprised when you tell them that the oldblood gets 8 attacks. you can see their hands start to shake a bit. lol. but with the oldblood, i'd only use him when i know i would win. i basically hid him behind cover and charge him into a flank or a unit that is already in combat with my saurus warriors. i mean the set up is to kill troops so what more can you really do?

objective is to use magic for Dispel purposes only unless your opponent doesn't have any magic left and keep in mind that in my turn 2 i rushed my EotG out quickly to use burning alignment so that greatly influenced my opponents to target him quickly and drew focus away from anything else in my army. and you know i played another game the next day against high elves and massacred him by turn 5, so i know this list can kill. but hope this helps.
