Hi, i posted before about chooseing the character for whom i get a discount of 250 pts

Now i have my first battle in the campaign and its against an orcs and goblin player with Azhag the slaughtered on his wyvern as his discounted character

my thoughts are between

i've not had many battles and have never fielded chameleon skinks before and the cold one's seem to do well for me any hints and tips appriciated, especially in the direction of killing the azhag and named wyvern

I would keep the chameleons in the list. I would do this because the O&G army has a lot of war machines that can be a pain in the butt. If you take Lore of Life, you could buff up the TG or the saurus to meet the named character. You could also try to kill him with poison shots from the chameleons. Another option would be to take the lore of Death and kill him with that.

can the slann choose to be in the front rank of the temple guard to get off purple sun without harming any of his own troops when casting? and if so when could he make this choice and when could he then drop back to the second rank as normal? i know purple sun is very much a desperation move as the damage potential is greater in our own units since our initive is 1 compared to 2-4 with maybe a 5 in there somewhere?

Due to the rule that puts him in the second rank, he cannot be in the front rank unless there are less than 4 models. You could run the slann in a unit of saurus warriors and put a scar-vet in there to push him to the second rank. Then move him to the front and put the scar-vet in the 2nd rank for that spell.

had a change of mind and went solo slann

2*7 and 1*8 Chameleon Skink

won the battle killing azhag and his wyvern, chamelon skink shone due to poor posistiong of the enemy, he left me 18 inchs at each side of his army for me to put the 3 units in, 2 giants died doing nothing.
Magic was just enough, however i noticed that the saurus either lacked punch or survivablilty so i lost several rounds of combat ... cold blooded and reroll from BSB meant i didn't run
death doesn't convince me, against teclis and other threats i suppose i'd use it but life and light offer more to all our troops. solo slann i like, and when i'm not assinating i can use the divine plaque rather than the obsidian amulet and have something to increase combat res or the likley hood of getting some
