8th Ed. 2000 point mini tourney list

I have a mini tourney coming up and am planning on the following list (because i want to use chakax). The tourney is un-comped, so i'm going to get SMASHED. But I want to show off chakax

First off you can ditch the champs in the skirmishers for a few more points and adding poison to cohorts is the same points as skirmishers. Run those to be more flexible unless you want a krox dart, but poison is kind of overdoing it for how inflexible they are. If I run cohorts as chaff they are usually as small as possible and I'll use a musician for aiding in rally tests and quick reforms. Unless you need banners you really shouldn't take full command on them and definitely not at close to min size; you're just giving them away. Since it is uncomped you can have success with the one TG brick, but why not go with a skirmisher cloud around it to frustrate your opponent. You'll also need the channelling staff to make harmonic worthwhile and resovoir may not be necessary. Any free points you have beef up the TG... I would honestly run my min core as 6x10 SkSk and one unit of twelve to hide the priest that way it's 4 casualties before LD tests.

The idea being you out-chaff your opponent and dictate the combat your TG get into; and since they can take a magic banner as well perhaps swiftness would be good to help you get the charge and add mobility. Last thought is with one priest baby sitting behind the TG to stop PF; it's a tough call between iceshard utility against range/war machines and close combat, but wysssans making you strength 6 and possible combo for uber toughness is pretty sweet; it's really a call you need to make based on what armies you usually see. If they are high strength and toughness I'd go wyssans; otherwise take heavens. Best of luck.

actually, the only reason the skinks are the way they are is because I don't have enough models to make an extra unit and I don't want any "useless warriors" (saurus warriors) this time.. the only way i can squeeze out as many skinks as I have is because i have a 6-man unit filler for the cohort hahaha

I really can't afford to buy more skinks at the moment (and don't have time to paint) otherwise i would totally run the most annoying skink cloud known to man. I could maybe 14 or 15 skirmishers out of the cohort skinks i have, but that'd be it...

Also, don't have any more TG either the 25+character+slann fits my movement tray perfectly and the unit has converted fillers and temple pieces that work inside the tray.

Can you explain why you'd go banner of swiftness? My thought process is that the difference between M4 and M5 is outweighed by swiftstride. the reason i went with a movement banner over the razord banner is that if i'm going to fail a charge, it would have been due to an unlucky rolls (which seems to be my forte), adding an extra die to the roll would do better in that situation than +1 M.
I don't rate warrior bane at all really, being that the unit champ should never be in a challenge inside chakax's unit, and i'd be losing 3 str5 attacks to get 3 str4 attacks with no added benefit... Also, ethereals will be quango'd to death

That aside I really like saurus. Atleast alot more then unit champs in skirms and poisoned cohorts. Also chakax is your only armour buster. So maybe a cohort with some bite. ala 3Krox (why can't we take an ancient krox instead of a brave?)
For the price of Jag banner the movement banner is prob just better because you get 35 more points to spend elsewhere. Still since it is your only block maybe it is worth it.

It's a perfect 2k, gives you str7 which every army needs, Party slann is still there and I think it holds the core of your list.
I'd prob drop the skink priest and mr2(you have throne for miscast prot, and MR doesn't save against the dirty spells) which frees up 145 points, drop the unit champ in the TG(you have chakax remember) and that will get you a 154 point Scarvet CO GW AoD.
If your worried about losing the scroll.... Man up!

The warrior bane was just sort of an afterthought... I had 8 leftover points and nowhere to put them. It's a bummer that you are light on skinks. Do you have any jungle swarms? They can be re-directors with no ranged attack sadly, but with the added benefit of putting them in combat on a corner and your PF rolls are now also poison... Just a thought... I really dislike cohorts and only take them if I'm avoiding comp. As far as not having enough TG; I've never had any issues using saurus as fillers in the back; they get removed soon enough. The banner of swiftness is just cheaper and it gets you march 10; that plus deploying at the line gets you nearly halfway across and looking for a charge turn two or positioning for a charge turn 3. The swiftstride banner can leave you out of range for a charge potentially. It's just been my experience that the extra inches tend to add up over the course of the game and the +1 M can help on the charge too whereas swiftstride is only useful on the charge and even then it's not a guarantee.

I do have the jungle swarms (on my Plog ), but the problem is the core tax.

I see your point about the banner. You've taken the middle ground between cost and movement benefit. if the 35 points would be the difference fielding something big and important then i'd go there. If it's just the 2 Temple Guards, then you bet i'll choose the more expensive banner (2 extra TG is far outweighed by making sure I get that important charge).
As far as marching is concerned, I rarely march with my TG. They are almost stationary for half the game while I wait for the enemy to come to me... but i suppose with only one real combat unit, I may need to be more agile.. hmmmmmm

re skrox unit, i've only got 2 kroxigors Good point on the MR. Sold. and dropping the priest... my main issue was that Life doesn't have any good offensives (other than dwellers) so was thinking that a heavens priest would give me another chance at an offensive spell. Basty may be enough, actually....

I have a few scenarios that require banners, is why I have the two cohort units with banners and musicians. Also one scenario gives points for killing the largest core unit, so hoping to hide that 125pt skrox unit in the corner for that game.
