8th Ed. 200 Point Escalation League

I'm signing up for a new Escalation league in Calgary soon and the start points are 200.
Pts are so low my first decision is whether or not to even take a general.
Cheapest option is 55 pts for a Skink Chief but thats 25% of the model. And could be replaced with 10 skink cohorts.
A saurus champion seems the best choice (also best leadership 8) but to take a full command you must meet standard warhammer unit mins. Which I'm pretty sure is 10.

So 10 saurus HW with FC is 140 points leaving just enough for like 8 skink skirmishers
Which leaves me prone to having only one unit.

Thoughts or army ideas?

You might need to give more details of the league rules for any specific advice. However, if you don't have to field a hero to lead your small force then a tiny block of SW and a 12 skink cohort would give you 2 units and about as much tactical control possible at 200 pts.

If you have to field a hero a SC with light armor and a shield, and two 14 skink cohorts is viable. Then you might be able to maneuver in a couple rounds of shooting or a flank attack.

In my very humble opinion those seem to be the only decent options. Without knowing any of the league rules, anyway.

Thanks, rules aren't to much,
minimum unit size is 5/3/1 depending on base size.
Must have a general which can be a unit champion, but only if that unit meets standard warhammer unit minimums. ie 10 for skinks and saurus. Magic Items and rare/special units can be used but at 200 pts thats not really an issue

So what I currently got is

9 Saurus Warriors + 1 Champion (General)

10 Skink Cohorts

5 Skink Cohorts

One to harrass one to flank charge.

Not sure how much they cost, but I would change the skink cohorts to just one (maybe two, they might be cheaper) unit of skirmishers. That would allow much more flexibility in my opinion.

Skirmishers are 2 points more a model, 3 if you want javs and shields.
On a 5 point model its a significant change.

But I think I should try and run one cohort and one skirmisher just to see the difference.

If unit champions can count as general, I'd be tempted by an all skink army:

15 Cohorts- Full Command (unit champ=general)

11 Cohorts

11 Cohorts

Total-199

Gives you 3 fast units, so you can either take them head on with the larger unit and flank with the other 2 units, or use your speed to out move the opponent and poison them into oblivion. you could even drop the standard and musician but would only get you 1-2 more skinks, i think i'd rather take the standard for combat res and the drummer for rallying purposes.

P.S. i can't see the point in paying 2 points pm more for what will essentially be -1 to hit coz they are skirmishers, other then that there is no advantage i feel.

Only problem is the fact that then your general is very squishy compared to if you used a saurus as one. Still would be worth trying, never had to make a army that small so would be quite hard to say if it would work

true but at 200 points the only thing thats going to out number you on the field are skaven slaves or goblins, both of which you would have the the advantage over.

Yes skaven could potenially field close to 100 slaves, but you charge the front and side to negate his flanks, at ld 5 or something lie that for slaves, they soon run and get wiped out. If against say WoC, not only will you be fighting no more than10 to 12 of them, poison is great for negating their high toughness.

That is true, it really depends on the rolls that you make I suppose. Need to test some stuff out cause never played anything smaller than 1K with Lizards
