8th Ed. 1st army 995 points - Updated with larger List for round 2

Re: 1st army 995 points - Updated with larger List for round

It's in the BRB, not sure if it's under BSB, general or beginning of the game (where it tells you how you decide who's your general)

It is under BSB and its clear, not BSB and general unless specifically mentioned (like the Slann)

Given the above etc.. I dumped the cold ones and have gone a slightly different route

My concern is having all my characters in that one unit. or do I split the Saurus into 2 smaller blocks ?

* Sarus Scar-Veteran Armor of Fortune, Battle standard, Great Weapon
* Sarus Scar-Veteran Gambler's Armor, Great Weapon
* Skink Priest Dispel Scroll, To a Level 2 Wizard

* 28 Saurus Warriors Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer (characters go in here)
* 10x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield
* 10x Skink Skirmisher Javelin and Shield

* 1 x Bastilidon Solar Engine
* 5 x Chameleon Skinks
* 5 x Chameleon Skinks
* 3 x Ripperdactyl Riders

* Ancient Stegadon Sharpened Horns, Blowpipe

Saurus, steg and bastiladon in the bsb bubble as hammer and anvils
skinks running redirection / interference

Chamelons and Rippers going after war machines / harassment

Ok folks,

After much messing about with the hero choices and trying to make them fit etc.. I finally ended up with this list.

Lord + BSB which I missed in the last battle.
L2 spells

The Plan
Saurus block to hold the center (With Scar Vet)
Skinks for redirection and poisoned attacks
Chameleons for War machine hunting
Cold ones as hammer (With Old Blood)
Rippers for flanking and supporting
Bastiladon for +1 I and that spell :)

* Sarus Oldblood - Cold One, Dawnstone, Dragon Helm, Great Weapon, Light Armour
* Sarus Scar-Veteran - Additional Hand Weapon, Battle standard, Enchanted Shield, Light Armour
* Skink Priest - Dispel Scroll, To a Level 2 Wizard

* 25 Saurus Warriors Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer
* 10x Skink Skirmishers Javelin and Shield
* 10x Skink Skirmishers Javelin and Shield

* Bastilidon - Solar Engine

* 5 x Chameleon Skinks
* 5 x Chameleon Skinks
* 6 Cold One Cavalry, Musician
* 3 x Ripperdactyl Riders

Ok, some tips:

* Sarus Oldblood - Cold One, Dawnstone, Dragon Helm, Great Weapon, Light Armour
No need for both the dragon helm and Light armour, he can't have better than 1+ save anyway.

* Sarus Scar-Veteran - Additional Hand Weapon, Battle standard, Enchanted Shield, Light Armour
With additional handweapon he can't use the shield.

* Skink Priest - Dispel Scroll, To a Level 2 Wizard

Not sure about how much you can spend in lords and heroes, but if it fits this could be an idea:

Old blood: Cold One, Dawnstone, Glittering scales, Great Weapon
Think it's 6 points more if you switch to glittering scales instead of helm and LA.
With -1 to hit he's usually more durable.

Sarus Scar-Veteran - Battle standard, Enchanted Shield, Light Armour, luckstone
Cheap, 2+ save with one reroll. It's 1 point more expensive.

Somehow you have to find the points, not sure if you can remove an saurus and still meet minimum core?

OR

Old blood: LA, Ench shield, Dawnstone, dragon gem (Dragon gem is enchanted item and not talisman, right?)
1+ rerollable, with 2++ vs flaming attacks. Now this one is on foot, and 36 pts chaper.

Scar vet: Cold one, BSB, great wpn, LA, dragon helm, luckstone
1+ with one reroll, 2++ vs flaming, and 30 pts more expensive.

Now the scar-vet is the cowboy instead, but you have 2 characters with 1+ save instead of one with 1+ and one with 2+.

In any case, there's no point in improving the armoursave beyond 1+, and usually no point in having a shield if you have GW or add handwpn.

I can drop the musician from the Cold ones for 10 points as I doubt I will really need it to make the set above without an issue.

This puts me at 1497 which is fine.

The BSB will be inside the Saurus block so should be relatively safe.

It is only my second game so it is about learning how WFB plays and how to maximise my use of my own army. I will be playing Skaven so Plague is my biggest fear.

If you drop the musician you'll NEED to have them properly deployed. Otherwise they'll take too long to get into action.

Yeah I know.

I never reformed them last time as i am still learning, but having said that, I don't think I would have as I only deployed them full width and hey never actually needed to change.

Its all learning for me.

Thanks for commenting.

Learning by doing is the best way to learn. I'ved had a bus to run around doing nothing for the major part of a game due to bad placement and no musician. Personally I wouldn't want to make that compromise again, but when points are low you'll have to make hard decisions.
