7th Ed. 1k List MkI and MkII - Comments welcome and wanted!

Here's my 1k army list which I intend to use mainly against skaven, high elves and in some friendly tournys. I am working on a stegadon version as well. I do not own any kroxigors or terradons, although I intend to amend that situation promptly.
I appreciate any criticism you can provide me with. Find faults in my reasoning and tell me what I've missed!

Here goes:

Saurus Scar-Veteran w/ Light Armour, Sword of Battle and Talisman of Protection
Skink Priest w/ Scroll and Rod of the Storm or Diadem of Power
15x Saurus Warriors w/ Spears, musician and standard
14x Skink Skirmishers
13x Skink Skirmishers
5x Cold One Cavalry
Salamander Hunting Pack w/ 2 sallies and 2 extra handlers
Total pts: 997

Tactics: I intend to base my army around my hard-as-obsinite block of sauruses which will be screened/flanked by the skirmishers and sallies. My COC will be deployed closeby on the flank that suits my strives of steamrolling into my enemies backfield best. The skink priest is obviously for magic defense and support-casting. The scar-vet will be deployed in the saurus block. I am considering removing one saurus for symmetrical-lulz and add skirmishers for the lost points, putting me at exactly 1k.

Now, as Aragorn said: what say you?

Edit: I am considering dropping the idea of the steg-list altogether, as most armies I can possibly face (skaven, high-elves and dwarfs) have effective counters (doom-wheel, rbt's and artillery) to it and I am unable to protect it properly at 1k. I am instead working on a terradon-list.

This list is very interesting I think, as it adds a crapload of versatility compared to the first list in the form of the terries, in exchange for a skirmisher, handler and sallie.

Now you can, if you were to feel so inclined, help me even more by telling which list you would prefer and why!

Well, isn't that just dandy? I'll be running the first list for now due to a lack of Terradons against Skaven and High-Elves by the end of this month if I take care of business (said business being the assembly and priming of most of aforementioned 1k pts).
Bat reps with pics and a strong narrative will be posted promptly after those battles.

I'm still hungry for more input though, so anyone who believes that I am missing something, please state your case!

I am thinking of trying out your second list myself,
since my group plays a lot of 1000pt games.
and it seems like a prety good list.

They look like good lists, I prefer the versatility of the 2nd but with the models you've got the 1st is still solid, could you maybe post what other models are in your collection to help with suggestions?

Also, I'd consider swapping the talisman of protection for the enchanted shield, gives a very nice save all told. You could consider (models permitting) mounting the Scar Vet on a cold one, he'll take the room of 1 extra saurus and make the unit immune to fear whilst giving a nice boost to your vets save... just remember the stupidity, its not huge with a scar vets LD backing it but its a potential fall down...
