7th Ed. 1885 point list i will trim later to make 1850, skink HEAVY!

Hey guys i'm new here, but i have been playing my lizards (not this list yet) for about 8-9 months, they are so much fun!

so here's my new list, i have to trim the fat later on (i think ill drop 4 saurus or so..)

You've got a lot of units to set up charges for your killers and those skinks can also be used as effective march blockers, getting in the way of units your opponent wants to charge with.

I have a few questions for you though.
1) Why put a champion in the cold one unit?
2) Why are you giving all six squads of skinks a brave? You could pick up 36 points by removing those braves.
3) Why squads of 12?

Thanks for the responses guys i will probably be play testing this on the weekend or next week.

*the champion is in the for the extra attack with a total unit size of 6 models i need that extra attack
*i have a brave in each just so i have potentially 12 poisoned attacks that will hit on 3+'s, with their low strength why not have as many possibilities to wound- but you are right, that would be the sensible thing to do for a 1850 game
they are squads of 12 for reason of the way i built them, lol but i suppose with smaller squads they have better maneuverability, i could have the full 6 foot span across the board of march blocking poisoned attacks

Never ever give mounted heroes GW!!!!!!! It only bonus str by one, you strike last and you lose your beautiful armour save! Take sword of might if you have to but please don't do that!

I highly recommend reading up on some other lists on this board, many of the more obvious ones have already been pointed out.

-great weapons and being mounted don't mix
-unit champion in cold ones is overpriced, and denies your scar vet a "look out sir" roll
-skink priest can only ride an Ancient with EotG
-skink priest should not take the staff of the lost sun, his ballistic skill is only 3
-if the skink chief has no items or upgrades, might as well take a plain stegadon
-skirmishers should be in groups of 10 to manage movement better, and should never have braves.
-24 saurus warriors is way too big for one unit, and they should always take spears
-get some terradons!

Even the braves will take the multi shot penalty... I'm guessing this is what led you to take so many skirmishers..

The blowpipes take penalties for:
long range
multi shot
move and shoot

also the skink chief was supposed to have the staff of the lost sun
i have recently swapped the scar vets GW for an extra hand weapon as the math says it will be better than a halberd for an extra strength, i have terradons in my 1k list, i just wanted to make a fun list under 2k for the 2 steggies i bought

Despite the fact that a skink chief can ride an ancient, doesn't mean that he should. I personally think you're sinking a lot of points into buffing out a T3 hero that would do just fine on a regular steg, allowing you to sink more points into fleshing out the army. In fact I would strongly recommend this.

At the 1k points level, you'll not be meating any lord level characters, so not giving the SV a shield seems like a waste to me. Scar vets already have a ridiculous amount of attacks to begin with and will most likely lay to waste any enemy hero that they get their claws on. If you're hellbent on getting an extra attack, pick up the shield that grants an extra attack (can't remember the name, Maiming shield?). It's essentially an extra HW with the benefit of the armor save. You could also give him a spear for +1 STR on charges if you really want to go over the top on the strength.

As far as adding unit champions to units, it is generally accpeted that adding UC's to any unit is undesirable simply for the extra attack or BS, as the points are far from worth it. There ARE situations where it is advantageous to have a UC, especially to protect characters, but generally those are one of the only uses.

As far as the skink unit sizes, I've never played against or seen a LM player go with extra skinks on his units, unless he has 6-7 extra points to spare, and then you'll only see one oversized unit. If I could, I would take skirmisher units in 7-8 skinks for regular games for their superior mobility whilst preserving their ridiculous amount of poisoned shots.

I never said he couldn't, just that it is pointless if you aren't going to upgrade the chief. Giving him the staff of lost sun makes more sense, but with that item a terradon would be a better mount for him. Riding an ancient stegadon, you would want his items to be more combat related, since he would probably spend most of his time charging in.

Remember also that models who are mounted cannot use extra hand weapons, but if you want lots of attacks take the maiming shield. +1 attack and +1 armor. That leaves 20 points with which you could grab +1 attack, but as always the burning blade of chotec is probably the best weapon for 20 points. Taking a spear with the VotFF isn't bad for a cheap but effective weapon on the charge.

just a thought if you drop 2 skinks off each unit, the braves, the cold one champion, the great weapon off the scar-vet, you should end up with like 150 spare points with that you could add 6 more saurus and make them into 2 units of 15 with/out spears you could also give your scar-vet some nice toys and i would give the chief on the ancient the +D6 impact hits spear that would make you have 2 units that can stand and fight two big hitters and still have a ton of skinks
