8th Ed. 1500 point army, just for fun. First army.

This is my first post so hello!

Iv'e not played warhammer in a few years, but me and a few mates have decided to get back into it. I will be playing against O+G mostly, here is my proposed army list.

Hero's- 386

Saurus scar veteran- , cold one , great weapon, battle standard, totem of prophecy .
(will ride with cold ones)

Skink Priest- lvl 2 magic .

Skink Priest- lvl 2 magic .

Core-618

20 Saurus- spears , champ , standard , musician ,

20 Saurus- champ , standard, , musician ,

6 Skink Skirmishers- Brave

6 Skink Skirmishers- Brave ,

Special- 490

10 Temple Guard , Guardian , standard, Standard ,

7 Cold one riders, Champ , standard , musician .

TOTAL 1494

IIRC you aren't supposed to post point totals for units.

That aside, Skink Skirmishers have to be fielded in units of 10-20 so you can't use the groups of 6. Also, fielding 295 points of CoC but not ponying up the 275 for at least a bare bones Slaan seems a little silly to me.

Were it me, I'd drop the two skink priests and take a slaan mage-priest with a plaque of topek. That's any one lore you want (instead of just the lore of heavens) and getting to roll for 5 spells you are basically ensured to get the ones from any lore that are truly worthwhile. +4 to the spells for the 4th level wizard instead of the silly little +2 from skinks AND if you take focused rumination you roll an extra power die with every spell for absolutely free.

In addition, if you absolutely do not want a Slaan on the field then turf the temple guard. They are only worthwhile as a nice buffer for Slaan to hide behind.. otherwise normal Saurus will provide more bang for your buck.

Good start! Just a few glitches. Looks like you are working with the Lizardmen Battalion and a spare box of saurus with a couple skink priests. Unfortunately the Saurus box only comes with 16 guys, so you'll be a little short.

Technically you are over budget with your Heroes. Your cap is at 375. I'd drop a priest and kit out the other one. Also, get some Light Armor for that Scar-Vet. And I think Totem of Prophecy might be redundant on a unit of Cold Ones. It's the one that causes fear, right?

Like Vallek said, your skirmishers have to be at least 10 strong, so you'd have to combine those units. Also, you really don't need the brave IMO. You'll be going for poison shots anyway, so rolling 6s are your biggest interest with these guys. The higher ballistic skill for one model isn't really worth it.

I'd recommend you drop the Temple Guard and get a unit of Chameleons or two. Then use the rest of the points to smooth out your kinks.

Am I allowed to field a slann for an army under 2000 points?

You can field a slann as long as you stay withing the points percentage for 2000 pts (500 pts, more than enought to make a good slann build). There are two schools of thought about TG at this points level. The first school (the one I am part of) will take the TG (16 at the minimum to fully protect the slann). The other school will leave off the TG and make the slann etheral (immune to non-magical attacks) and deck him out with items to help against ranged attacks. You still have to be careful with the slann though. It may even be worth it to give him the crown of command since you do not have a TG unit to make the unit stubborn.

Just this weekend I fielded a Slaan Mage-priest in three 1500 point games and utterly wrecked Ogres twice and Orcs and Goblins once, continuing my Lizardmen undefeated streak. So, with 375 points maximum on Lords I was able to field my Slaan with: Focused Rumination, Becalming Cogitation, Plaque of Tepok, and BSB. Thats a pretty nasty Slaan against anything but Dwarves.

We did, however, have an interesting question about Becalming Cogitation. It states that any power dice that roll 6's are discarded and ignored for the purposes of irresistible force and miscasting. Since dispelling remains in play spells during your magic phase requires you to use your power dice if you were use Becalming on the wizard the enemy was trying to dispell with would that not remove any 6's rolled in this circumstance? Normal dispelling would be uneffected as they are literally called "dispell dice" yet dispelling during your own magic phase they are still called "power dice".

Hi there!

I've just got back into warhammer after years away. I just got my codex and found to my dissapointment that Slann counts as a lord and therefore, cannot be used in a under 2000 point army.

Is there something I'm getting wrong? Since you are all using them in 1500 point games?

8th edition has removed that rule. Your lords can now be in any list as long as it is 25% of the total points. So, in a 1500 point game, you can take a 375 point slann (as long as you work it in the points).
