8th Ed. 1250 pts lists, advice needed

I dont normally play at this point level so could do with some advice ive come up with a slann and old blood list

List one

LIST 2 Now squeezing a slann into this list has been tough and im thinking of putting him in the skirmishers for a bit of survivability

lvl 2 Skink priests dispel scroll cloak of feathers

i was tempted to drop one lot of skirmishers for some chameleon skinks

depends who your playing and what they are running really, also dont post point values on here, forum rules. but my opinion on the lists i prefer the first list im big on slashy lizard armies. but i feel that the second list gives you some good breathing room for just about anything coming your way so i feel that the 2nd list is more competitive

Yeah ill remove the points values this list was copy and pasted from another forum with different rules regarding points values.
I wont actually know who im playing until i arrive, the first list i feel will give me an edge over armies like VC or TK where dropping the general can sway the whole battle, the second list causes me two problems ive never a run a slann so under equipped before and dont really know if running a lvl 4 at this points level isnt a little bit power gaming.

I would say the 2nd list is more competitive but the first one has a nice feeling to it.

I guess it depends what you are going to see, are you dropping down to this points level for a special tournament? or is it with a new guy who only has 1250 points? or a scenario?

In the first list:
Im not convinced this is the best loadout for a Oldblood, with Piranha blade and Banehead it seems he is tooled up for character hunting, if the opponent realises this (since you declare banehead at the start of the battle) they should try everything in their power to prevent the oldblood getting into combat with him.
If it is a tournament, a more general loadout might be better incase you can't get to the character or the opposition has no obvious targets.

Both the skink priest seem to be doing the same job, might be more efficient to make one a Lvl 2 with plaque of Tepok (your main caster) and the other one a Lvl 1 scroll caddy. This would also save you points as you currently only have one place for both priest to go, the skirmishers, that would make that unit a 250+ point unit of toughness 2 troops! that would be a juicy prize. The points you save from the priest could be used for get 10 rank and file skink as a bunker to sit back and look after the level 2.

Other than that the list looks like it would be fun to play with.

In the second list:
What lore would you run or would you choose once you see the opponent?

A Level 4 with an extra spell is very powerful at this level.
The Slann has a Luckstone, this re-rolls one armour save, a Slann doesn't have an armour save so this is a redundant item.

It looks like you are wanting to use your skink priest as a flying vassal for the slann? If so, then the Level 2 upgrade isn't needed, firstly the slann will be using all the power dice and secondly, after you have flown foward and fired the MM through the priest, the opponent will kill it easily, toughness 2 with no save.

Other than that, you might want to give the Saurus a champion to give you some flexibility when it comes to challenges, you dont want to have to accept with you ScarVet if the challenger would kill him before he got to strike back.

But the second list looks more competitive and all round more versatile

My local GW are using the summer to get more people into fantasy so its 1250 raising 250 every week, and im just using it as a testing ground before i start running my own campaign.

The old blood is a character hunter specifically for a VC or TK army really where dropping their general confers such a bonus, and the reasons for the 2 skinks is to really have a good shot at getting the comet, but i do see what you mean as having nowhere to put the second priest which i was hoping would help me get their General having to walk closer to me. remember a single failed save will outright kill most generals. I've not had any real luck with rank and file skinks unless they have been for Tetto eko to hide in or skrox 10 rank and file would probably end up doing nothing perhaps i could run the second priest on his own meaning he is another target.

List 2 i did wonder about the luck stone but basically i had 5 points and no idea what to do with it lol.
i see what your saying with the lvl 2 upgrade to get 5 more saurus or even that unit champ.
Generally i pick my lore at the when i know my opponent i know some people consider this bad form but given that all my army lists are in my notebook all id end up doing is writing the same list 8 times one for each lore do you think a lvl 4 at this lvl is a bit much?

Yeah that oldblood would rip apart a lot of generals. It Would work very well.
You could run the second priest solo, just keep him at the back and cast comets!
If you want to maximise your chances of getting comet, take two level 2's one with the plaque of tepok rather than the cube.

I wouldn't consider it bad form, if you were playing people you knew you would know their army and choose accordingly so what's the difference? Just wondered if you had to submit a list at the start but if not then choosing is the easiest way. the extra 5 points? Maybe an iron curse icon (to pass onto the unit)?

I wouldn't say a level 4 is too much at this level if you think it will be a competitive environment. Just flipping through the army books I have to hand, HE, TK and OK can all take level 4's at this point level and daemons can take a level 2 lore master of any lore, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a level 4 lining up opposite you.

Quite often, I don't mind if someone has a strong list if they are fun to play against.
