I HAVE THE POWER!!! (in terms of forum milestones)

i wouldn't want to "push" you toward your final destination, starting such a race ;)
Alas, the time draws near. I find that the forum is slowly dwindling. Less activity, less discussion and less interaction. I suppose it was inevitable; the fate of (nearly) all Warhammer forums. Lustria Online is my favourite forum, it is sad to see her in such decline.

Maybe it was just never the same after the departure of @Lizards of Renown . #GoneButNotForgotten We've still got some great members but many of them are posting more and more infrequently. Even the most reliable of the old guard, @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl and @Imrahil (among a few others), while still with us, are increasingly scarce. @Scalenex may not post a lot but he is still a consistent and reliable force on the forum. And of course you're one of the very last few that is still super active; working hard to keep this place alive!

At least @Scalenex will have his peace, finally free from my machinations! :p But there's still over 9,000 to go! Until then, my voice will be loud and proud as it always has been.

it's sad indeed... but it's also (i believe) a matter of the current way communications work. Forums are dwindling, despite the argument they focus on.
A kind of media is going away, but the replacements offer nothing similar.

That is definitely a factor which cannot be dismissed. I think it works in conjunction with other things too. As much as you guys are probably sick of me saying it, AoS, TOW, T9A and KoW never reached the heights of WHFB in terms of forum interaction. AoS had a fair run for a couple of years, TOW died within a year or so and KoW + T9A were dead on arrival.

And then there is the domino effect. A few influential members leave, and forum engagement/discussion suffers, leading to more departures, and so on repeating.

You don't have to leave at 100,000.

Though, whether you stay or go, I win. So that's something.

It's too beautiful of a number, and 1,000,000 is unreachable... even for me.

You'll have to cross 100,000 yourself to earn that victory! Even @- Q - and @Killer Angel are a long ways off the mark.

Then again, I'm sure the peace that will settle over the forum in my absence will be a sort of victory in its own way. However, from now until then, the weather forecast calls for chaos! ;)

If you stay I win because the forum is that much more active.

If you leave I win because the forum is that much more peaceful.

Random non-round numbers are more chaotic though, so you seem to be on the Forces of Order.

...or you could join with a new account, thus leaving @NIGHTBRINGER with that majestic number but still enjoy the place

For a self-described pessimist, that is quite an optimistic way of looking at things!!

:p

As a devotee of Slaanesh I appreciate the symmetry and beauty of 100,000. There is no escape from Slaanesh. She marks us all.

Join and become a non-Slann?!? Be among the lowest of the low... a simple peasant. I've occupied that top spot for so long now, it would feel... uncharacteristic. Like a Daemon Prince becoming a lowly marauder or a Sorcerer-Prophet tolling away in the mines as a slave.

Now sure, I could view it as a challenge to rise through the ranks for a second time. A sort of phoenix rising from the ashes. And while plausible, it is a big leap to hunt down yourself and @- Q - , especially as the forum dwindles. That's the biggest issue, this place is looking increasingly desolate. Surely I'm not the only one that has noticed this. What will it be 9,000 posts from now?

For example, if we look at the interaction levels in my custom character point threads, we have (discounting my personal votes):

Ra'nubis (October 2017) - 11 votes
Akamun (July 2018) - 4 votes
Valentia (May 2026) - 1 vote (with yours to follow)

A bad trajectory. But of course it expands well beyond this singular & narrow example. How many painters do we have now? What about something more near and dear to your heart, Short Story authors? Mere fractions of what we enjoyed before. For me however, nobody really talks Warhammer anymore; games, strategies, analysis, etc. @Lizards of Renown was the last super active member in that regard (and myself of course, but talking to myself seems like a sure path to Spawndom ;)). While he was here, him and I would constantly talk shop. The two of us could single-handedly carry a conversation along for pages after pages, and you know what, it would eventually start accreting interest and others would join in. There just isn't anybody who seems really into the game side of Warhammer, let alone ones specifically interested in 8th edition. Heck even the my beloved General Chat sub-forum is a shadow of its former glory. Do you remember the awesome conversations that were had? Giant discussions would spawn, grow and take a life of their own. Now it's just a meager few of us, puttering away for a few pages at best.

Perhaps its a sign of things to come, but I increasingly talk Warhammer with AI chatbots. I've been analyzing Valentia's rules (along with a few other characters I've been working on) with not one, not two but three different chat bots.

Don't get me wrong, some of the members remaining are the very best. I admire you fine chaps, I truly do! But even among those, activity levels are continually decreasing. Take a tally of the top 20 posting members of the forum, how many of them are highly active in comparison to those that are rarely active or no longer interacting with the forum at all?

If things must go silent. If the forum must eventually fade. Why not leave it on my own terms? On top. A glorious & beautiful end.

But that is many moons from now. For now, we party and chat, as we always have. There are still many good times ahead, even if they are more subdued then back in the golden era of Lustria Online.

Of all the forums I have been a part of, Chamber of the Everchosen, Eighth Edition For Life, Tomb Kings of Khemri and Chaos Dwarfs Online, Lustria is my favourite! I wish she could be revived.
