I feel that. Thus far, the only horde armies I've enjoyed painting were my Lizardmen (Saurus horde) and my Separatists (B1s being ridiculously easy to paint).

Same for me, never really painted any besides the heroes since I am a casual player though

I've been playing Imperial Guard for 30+ years now, and I started an Ork army in 2015-ish... I might have a problem with my unpainted piles. Something something painting two hordes? I did that to myself though.

I have enough unpainted Lizardmen (and LM are not even a horde) that I haven't pulled the trigger on collecting 40K for this reason. All the 40K armies I like best are hordes. Orks and Imperial Guard..maybe Tyranids.

Funny thing: this happened to me the week before I went on vacation in England, with one destination being Warhammer World. The 2000pt SBGL army I intended to bring for that dropped in cost by 100pts, so I had to race to get a filler unit of skeletons painted in time.

Funny enough for me it was the opposite, I only play AoS and mainly do BoK which after getting my second bloodthirster the book came out for 4th making it so much stronger.. still gotta put together 2 bloodletter and crusher units from the old demon start collecting box though

I also have too many unpainted models. Models that I will never get around to painting. I've been thinking I should sell off one of my four armies.

... I started a Daemons of Chaos army a month before GW announced they weren't making a codex for them in 10th. I ran Dogs of War through 5th, 6th, and part of 7th ed WFB. I ran Lost and the Damned/Renegades of Vraks. Been there, done that, still salty about it.
