GW News: LAS VEGAS OPEN 2025

No complaints there either, a pair of lovely new Necron models! Nice also that the new character is effectively trying to turn Necrons back into the Oldcrons, so that Oldcron fans can no longer complain that they've been ignored and now have a character they can root for :D..
More importantly; it looks like he is an actual threat to the silent king. Or at least, a threat to the silent king's plans. Yes, lesser necron nobles scheme, but so far absolutly noone has the power to actually threaten him. Which finally gives the necrons an proper internal struggle again.

I certainly think at least Vizzik Scour is newer, as he came out with the Skaven release for 4th, and he only made it to 5th place despite being darker and edgier than your average Skaven model :shifty:.
Vizzik may be newer, but he isn't terribly unique, at the end of the day it's just a verminlord. So people who like Vizzik probably also like the verminlords, which dilutes the votes and lower his rank.

Ushoran is 1) edgy. 2) new-ish and 3) pretty unique with no direct competition.

Why Skryre...?

I get that warppunk ratmen is a fun theme, but when are the other clans (Pestilens and Eshin especially) going to get their time in the limelight?

Because they got the recent updated models, and GeeDubs don't want to put older models into these shiny boxes.

Hopefully the ratty bois of other clans get updates soon.

They only have themselves to blame by not updating those older kits then.

Of the lot, I'd argue that Eshin needs the model refresh more, because those models have aged like milk since the days of Mordheim.

On that, we definitely agree. We need some updated rat ninjas, which I can convert to be Master Splinter XD
Hell, I wouldn't be opposed if they got the Hunters of Huanchi or Wildercorps Hunters treatment, where they start off as a warcry warband and get ported over to the main game, because that's kind of what they need to be anyway.

Cuz skryre is the easiest to make models for that stand out from the other factions.
That warppunk aesthetic is fairly unique, and allows for a broad set of models. The others not so much.

Specific for Pestilens; focusing on that just creates overlap with nurgle. And Eshin basicly only has assasins. There's only so many assassin variants you can make before it gets boring.

Agree.
Skryre it's probably the most interesting and fun Skaven faction. I also would like some Moulder Clan

Yeah, but even moulder needs those warppunk things for flavour. A warpfire thrower or some kind of weird contraption strapped to the rat ogre is mandatory. Without them it's just a bunch of mutated chaos beasts that are vaguely rat-themed.

I was curious to see how your love of Beastmen and distain for Nurgle would play out. Glad you like them. Something new for your collection?

Absolutely... I have a fair few Beasty Boys to work on still at this stage (got one of the big Old World boxes of 30 Gors recently to make a couple of units' worth), but certainly something to look out for to add to the army in future.

An interesting narrative. There can't be that many people hanging on to the old lore though.

Never underestimate the "how things used to be was better than how things are now" mentality of portions of fanbases.

Absolutely. In fact I was pretty unimpressed that GW decided to remake Clanrats and Stormvermin yet again for 4th Edition Skaven releases, when the 7th Edition Warhammer Fantasy kits for those were perfectly fine still, and yet they could have used that as the perfect opportunity to update the far older and uglier monkey rat Night Runners kit. The Plague Monks (released in the mid-2000s when the 6th Edition Lustria Campaign book came out) aren't so bad and still at least look like rats, but again, they were far more in need of a resculpt than Clanrats and Stormvermin.

Grow the herd!

I wonder who in Games Workshop makes those decisions and what rationale they apply when choosing who to update and who not to. From the outside looking in, it does seem at times to be random at best and counterintuitive at worst. However, there must be some sort of method to their madness.

Nurgle models have rarely interested me. I assume Nurgle needed some updated sculpts?

Cathay Wave 2 looks cool. I guess their basically Empire with a fantasy Asian spin.

I think they're slowly trying to update the individual Chaos gods roster. The stream specifically spoke about how this was the biggest Nurgle release since End Times, which I took to be "we want to update those old models", but that could be me inflicting my own personal bias onto the statement.

I suppose from a point of view, they can be seen that way? They do have some differences from the Empire aside from the Fantasy-Chinese aesthetic; they have hot air balloons, instead of Steam Tanks :-P And they have a leader who can literally shout "It's Morphin' Time" to turn into a dragon. Karl Franz never had the ability to randomly turn into a griffin. XD

I think that comes down to limitations of human factions who have historic inspiration though. They either be 18th century inspired, like the Empire, or they be Classic Medieval era inspired, like the Bretonnians. Or they can muddle about somewhere in between... like the Dogs of War.

I like them, and even if their release had just been "so, you use Empire rules to play Cathay, but here's a few extra unit profiles to make them 'distinct' while also removing certain unit profiles for the same and balance" I probably still would have liked them, because why would I ever dislike options to choose your army's looks? That they do have their own unique rules is a bonus to me.

Who is next?
Eh, tzeentch maybe?
Nurgle didn't really have mortal units in AoS, this update seems to focus on that.
Slaanesh & khorne have a reasonable mix of mortals & demons.
Tzeentch could use some love. While it does have a solid amount of units a lot of them are heroes.
And in terms of mortals they really only have the acolytes. And of course for some reason a billion Tzaangor.
