What are you doing today hobbywise?

Today, I am trying to convince myself that my wallet already doesn't like me, and that buying/pre-ordering the new edition of Kings of War's starter box would not be a good idea. Especially with the absence of local players who have any desire to learn the game with me.

But that new faction looks cool... but I don't have a NEED for such models... but I really want them and the box in general... but my mountain of shame is already mocking me... >_<

I've been holding off buying some heresy models since the scene here is dead after 3rd edition dropped. Even people who want to play 2nd aren't playing. I feel your pain.

One could start collecting TOW Tomb Kings army instead (as TOW is more popular) and use the Xirkaali as Ushabti ;)

Don't.

you shall resist, those money will be better spent on different minuatures :p

eh, the only HH models i've buyed were for my 40k games.
From a certain pov i'm lucky... with the chance to play also HH, i would end buying all those wonderful Mechanicum models.

Horus Heresy is kind of in that awkward spot where a fair number of people, including long-time hobby veterans, are put off by the "minor tweaks" that GW implemented in the new edition, yet the system has enough flexibility to accommodate their usual list from the previous edition with very little alteration (provided of course that they didn't go all in on a skew list such as "Oops! All Dreadnoughts!" in 2.0). It also doesn't help that a good lot of the discontent comes not from 3.0 being released when it did (at least, not directly), but rather that company support for 2.0 was lacking in the long term when players wanted things to be fixed within the edition, with the full expectation that HH wasn't going to have a 3-4-year edition turnover rate like vanilla does.

With the Christmas season coming up, my moneys will be better spent actually buying family Christmas presents over the months instead of bricking myself as I realise I forgot until the last moment again

Given a couple of years, I might be able to convince my nephew as to the joys of tabletop wargaming. But he's not at an age yet where I would be buying him miniatures, never mind the hobby tools to assemble such. I think my sister would actually murder me with the crafting knife if I tried to give him one at this point in time.

Noooo... cease thy temptations, you tricksy minx! My wallet is on its knees, begging me to stop bleeding it dry. And my mountain of shame mocks me ever louder!

I am definitely put off by the expectation of a three year cycle. 40k has been off the table in my group due to not liking the churn of rules and also we like templates and a few other older rules. The pull of HH was the older rules and a longer time for each edition as you mentioned. 2nd wasn't the best but we enjoyed it but 3rd polarized the group and now it's two guys playing 3rd and the rest going to other games, TOW for example. I haven't played it so I can't give an opinion other than list making is a nightmare and that alone turned me off. I'm told the game otherwise is fun.

Fair.

My gaming group tends to jump between multiple different games to the extent that there's some that we play maybe twice a year at most. Part of it is admittedly to encourage our newest members to get into games other than 40k. Thus far we've gotten them onboard with Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Port Royal, Mordheim, Black Seas, and while one of them is more keen on the wacky stuff for Konflikt '47 we've been putting forth the recommendation to collect with Bolt Action and Achtung Panzer! in mind as well.

On a side note, while I've been continuing work on my Soulblight collection for an upcoming trip to Warhammer World, I've also been plugging away at making my own tabletop war game system. I may yet put up a thread just for that in due time.

Excellent! I've been playing Pulp Alley and starting up Dead Man's Hand. The biggest issue I have, and yes it's my issue, is that I don't get to play often due to life happening. If the edition changes every three years it's not worth changing for me. I have no extra money to pay a few hundred if I can't play enough to make it worthwhile. We still play Mordheim and we are trying to get Necromund back on the playlist as well as Blood and Plunder.

That sounds familiar. Only Horus Heresy minis I've bought are a pair of Malcador tanks. So annoyed that they suddenly went Legends. I've been tempted by those Aethon Pattern Heavy Sentinels though, because someone else took one and did this:
Idea for skaviir01.jpg idea for skaviir02.jpg

'cause I'm sorry, that is just an awesome idea. Walking artillery? Yes, please.

In the meantime, I picked up a box of Killa Kans for Orktober. Waagh.

Random question as I can't find one that I like. Do any of you know where I can find a decent janitor model 28mm? My search fu has been poor.
