Wouldn't the Necrons hard-counter the Tyranids? No bio-mass and stupendously advanced technology.

absolutely yes.

That sucks but I respect your priorities. Food and shelter are more important than minis. I've sold off things as well due to financial crunches. I wanted to go to Historicon a few years ago but couldn't afford it, my second son was due in a few months and I refuse to jeopardize my families care for my entertainment. So I sold my 1st generation FW warhound Titan, it was a loss but I never get to use it so not as bad as it could be.

I do miss my Dogs of War, but on the other hand they haven't really been usable since WFB 6th edition. :( But paying rent and bills and stuff is more important. I really do wish I'd kept Oglah Khan's Hobgoblin Wolf Riders though - I still have 2 figures from that set, but kind of wish I'd stocked up on them while they were cheap. Can you imagine running Gitmob using those sculpts?!? I can...

They do pretty much - their lack of biomass means Tyranid Hive Fleets generally avoid Necron Tomb Worlds. They'd only consider attacking one if there were flesh-and-blood races settled on the surface and unaware of the Necrons dormant in their Stasis-Crypts below (which often happens). Then the Necrons awaken to remove both the alien pests that tried to infest their world to begin with, and the more numerous alien pests drawn to the original pests' presence.

Warhammer Armies Project was an absolute Godsend for me on the that front. 7th and 8th had rules and I was able to play the army. Gitmob is AoS? Yes they would look absolutely amazing! I should have picked up more myself. So many specific sculpts I'm missing that I won't be able to get without too much money being spent. Al Muktars and wolf riders are costly. Mind you having lots of Volands makes me happy as I use them in my Averland army.

Man, I miss Voland's Venators. Easy to paint, looked stunning, and hit like a brick! I had one game against Dark Elves in 6th edition where they got a charge into a unit of Executioners, wiped half of the unit on the charge, and tanked the return strikes, only losing one model...

Right now, I have Ghazak Khan and the musician from Oglah Khan's wolf riders, plus a Drogg stand-in that I made using a Chaos Dwarf Hobgoblin Wolf Boss and a 40K Thunderwolf... really wish I could scrounge up more hobgoblins.

Necron tomb worlds still have plants, animals and soil that Tyranids can use right? I'm not seeing Tyranids strongly covet Necron worlds, but it wouldn't be useless.

For their part, Necrons don't need the plants and animals on their planets but I think with their "GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DARN KIDS!" approach to diplomacy, they would fight to defend what is theirs.

An awakened tomb world probably would have only the soil and a heavy presence of inorganic trouble, making it a suboptimal target to say the least.

A dormant tomb world, on the other hand, would be standard invasion procedure. with surprise.
