Hey everyone, hope you're doing well!
I am doing pretty well, all things considered going on in my country and just daily life in general. I am finished with school this weekend, so I am pretty pumped for that. It's been a good semester, but I'm ready to be done for this semester and get into Summer and whatever it holds.
But now for what everyone is here for... Miniatures and progress!
I've been a little busy working on some past projects to either finish them or get them almost finished. A big push (which we all know I can use, ha) to finish these is that I played my first tabletop game last Thursday! It was so much fun. I ended up playing One Page Rules (OPR) and brought my Saurians/Lizardmen/Seraphon, and I went up against Vampire Counts. The list I brought consisted of a Skink Priest, Kroxigor Veteran, Saurus Warriors (10), Kroxigor (3), and one of my Bastiladons. It was truly a blast and I'm excited for next Thursday (we meet Bi-weekly on Thursdays), not sure i can get another game in before school is done, sadly. In the end my first game came out to a draw due to victory points, but it's safe to say I obliterated my opponents actual army of undead horrors. It was great fun!
That kinda put some gas in my engine to work on some stuff I'm hoping to have done before next Thursday: My Spawn of Chotec and my Skink Variation of a Carnosaur, both of which were began last year (at minimum).
I had gotten back to my Salamander and crew first, as I had actually brought them to OPR night, but never used my second list (learning and playing the first game took most of the night/conversations going on, hoping for more next time). So, I added it to this list for next week to include it for sure. The Salamander and the lead skink were already done essentially, so I began the other skinks which were only partially started, but primarily still black primer. I decided to do them *slightly* different from the lead skink. Instead of doing all white with a dirty look for the underbelly I decided on Jakaro Orange for most of the bodies base, minus the scales and where I had already began the white prior last year (or whenever). The scales I did a very light dry-wet brush over the black scales with wild rider red, giving a kind of burning coal look. Also making the membrane on their frill ultra bright with bright oranges and Cassandra Yellow to finish off the membranes. The gold is just retribution gold, though I may still add more to it, such as some silver and a wash, but do like the pure gold look on the weapon and back armor. For the weapon I used gold and The Fang/Russ Grey to give a gold and Slate look, which I think came out pretty well. The bag of goodies I used Steel Legion Dust or whatever, the rocks themselves being scar white washed over with Cassadora Yellow to give them a fire/glowy vibe. All in all, I'm really proud of how these have come out and will fully finish them sometime in the next week.
For the Skink Variation of a Carnosaur, this project was definitely began possibly two years ago, I'm honestly not sure. I had a fun name for the dinosaur too, I'll have to search through my posts to find its official name again lol anyway! Brought this beautiful back out, dusted, and then placed back on the painting table. They have always been intended to be one of/the leader of my Skink lead themed army. But I wanted something that felt more physically intimidating like the Saurus and Carnosaur vs the Oracle and Troglodon (don't get me wrong, I love the Troglodon, but it doesn't scream the same power as Carnosaur to me for whatever reason). So that's how the wargear was created, to add to the carnage and physical intimidating. For this model it's been a lot of iconography work, using lots of blues and Sotek Green to continue the vibe I was going for, a river/oasis/marsh dweller of primarily deserts and surrounding areas. I've also been adding a little more normal paint to the contrast used originally, building up primarily the Burgundy (I don't plan to really touch the white parts, and am debating on touching the tan/sandy looking areas). I still need to finish the skinks which ride the creature, a Skink Chief and their 3 followers, mainly detail and metallic work needs to be finished for them.
All in all, a lot of great progress on both of these older models, and happy to be seeing them inch closer and closer, as they deserve.
Any thoughts are always welcome
Have a great day everyone
