GW News: LAS VEGAS OPEN 2025

Most people are probably going to default to "Kislev is Russia", unable to recognize there are other Slavic influences in there.

Now the question is, if this is indeed the case as we believe it to be, would current war in Ukraine be grounds for GW to shy away from a Kislev release?

I really hope not. And not just because of all the effort they've already gone to advertising Kislev and working with Creative Assembly to create a fully functioning roster that wasn't just Empire with a few special troop choices.

(I really want to see the 8th edition Grand Cathay and Kislev battletomes that GeeDubs supposedly created just to give CA the foundations to work from - what use do they serve sitting in a vault, let @NIGHTBRINGER have a new 8th edition release!)

I certainly hope it will be a mixture of addressing the 'Legacy' factions (surely they can see people want them to gain full support too? In all non-GW TOW tournaments the 'Legacy' factions are allowed alongside the 'Big 9', which says something about how much people want them back) and
I think our scaly bois would be a fine addition to the game!

For me personally, a Kislev or Grand Cathay release (even for 8th) would not be all that exciting. I don't really care for another human faction. I'm not a huge fan of the Empire or Bretonnia either.

I think it's probably the combination of a potential backlash, plus kislev and cathay being relativly low priority anyway, as they already have 2 human factions.

I tend to agree.
The look of Kislev (warriors in a land of snow) is already covered by chaos (Norsca) and dwarfs; bears are cool but not enough.
Grand Cathay could be more interesting from a mere looking pov, but you would need to enhance the difference between human factions, in a similar way it was done for High elves, Dark elves and Wood elves.

Fair point. The biggest problem is that they are very Empire in armaments: they have bows, they have guns, they have halberds, they have artillery. They even have their own fancy cavalry mounts in the same way that the elite gets demigryphs.

Where Cathay stands out is their terracotta warriors, their ruling characters being able to sailor moon transform into dragons, and their hot air balloons. I don't think the Empire has anything capable of flight. There is probably more, but off the top of my head those are the things that stand out the most.

I wonder if the tabletop would try to incorporate the whole harmony mechanic, ranged units close to melee granting a buff for both... But then that would probably result in them becoming another slow moving turtle faction. A style already perfected by the Dawi.

My main reason for wanting new factions to be explored and expanded upon? I'm a sucker for lore and stories. If they get their armies released, that means more lore and more tales for me to indulge in.

If we're talking about potential new armies, I'd most like to see a full scale Dogs of War army or a Vampire Coast army (like in Total War).

Technically Hinterlands of Kuresh fits that idea - the most recent fan interpretation of the Snakemen that live there is that they were an abandoned colony of Lizardmen that were mutated into serpents by Chaos, and now live their lives experimenting upon the lesser races and ruling as self-styled gods over populations of the native humans.

Now imagine a GW official Chaos Lizardmen faction!
