Well, part of your problem is you're house hunting in CALIFOrNIA! Also possibly within walking distance of Disneyland. Pretty sure that's near Costa Mesa, because I went to a sci-fi con there once and one of the outer walls was near my hotel. But seriously, housing pricing is insane.

In the so called "fly over states" you can get much bigger houses for a fraction of the money.
