As far as I can see the two Skinks use different arms (and staff), legs and heads so as long as there are also two torsos inside you could build a Starseer with the seated Skink and use the standing version as a Skink Priest on foot

I agree. The previous Starseer is actually quite nicely sculpted for a finecast. This update is okay. I generally like the new throne, but I'm not a huge fan of the seated pose. The standing Starseer pose is fine.

Ye looking at the seated version he just seems to be awkwardly standing.
 
I just noticed that you can make the inside of big ring with two options as well. It's probably just how you flip that piece.
 
Well, i cannot say the model is not good, but the old starseer imo was still among some of our best models... so i would have liked to see some kroxy, before this.

And the ability is kinda underwhelming... 5+ ward save, that could even fail, once per battle? Meh...

A 5+ ward is nothing to sneer at IMO. Not ideal that it can fail though.

Hopefully he brings some decent casting to the table. Even just keeping Control Fate in its current form would be good.

First...I still don't understand why they carve the toenails always stuck together like with 6th edition skinks! I hate that!
However as much as I didn't expect this surprise I think it's an excellent reworking of the current one.
I think I will mount the standing skink with the head and scepter of the seated one.
Anyway the only real reason I am bothering to see this news is the fact that the actual miniature I compted and painted two years ago and will have used no more than three times and he will already retire in favor of this...
 
How much should one take from GWs online stock availability?
It's obvious but both Knights and Kroxigors are no longer available online as well as the Start collecting Skinks, which I think is the interesting one given most of that box is newer models apart from the Skinks themselves o_O

I mean obviously the boxes were going but one can have fun speculating :D
