I HAVE THE POWER!!! (in terms of forum milestones)

I don't know if this is a hijacking of the thread's intent or not, but I don't care. I have reached my volume writing goal for this month.

upload_2022-12-30_18-49-16.png

And I have reached my literary goal for this month by completing my first piece of proper Scarterran fiction, Unstable Ground. With many more to follow in 2023, I hope.

You all should read it and heap praise upon my genius.

I know I am not being modest but this is not the thread for modesty.

Now that I have accomplished my worthy goals, it is time to rest my typing fingers.

Perhaps someday, Scarterra will become so big that my unborn grandchildren can cynically cash in on my legacy by selling the rights to my setting to talentless hacks producing content for Amazon Prime.

The tide of Pokemon ultimately proved to be too much. Our long time forumite, @Scalenex , has finally been surpassed by our friend @Imrahil on the Most Messages list. He now stands in fifth place and possibly eyeing a vulnerable @Lizards of Renown . Will @Lizards of Renown return to the forum to defend his fourth place standing? As things currently stand, @Imrahil has a clear path to claim third, with two inactive (or very low active) members directly above him.

Nightbringer likes to encourage the top ranking forumites to fight amongst themselves. I've been pondering which fictional villain or anti-hero best suits what he is doing.

Nightbringer certainly loves Palpatine memes, but I think it's because he likes scenes like this, and not because he identifies with the big P. He never tries to teach or command the number 2 forumite so I don't see a Sith Rule of Two in play here.

My understanding of the Sith Rule of Two, is that a Dark Lord kind of/sort of doesn't mind if his/her apprentice kills them because this ensures the strongest possible Lord of Sith. Palpatine may be on the fence about this one, but he sure seems to live dangerously for someone who supposedly wants to live forever, both in canon, and the expanded universe.

But the gap between Palpatine and Anakin/Luke is arguably much smaller than the gap between Nightbringer and everyone else. Perhaps we need a villain that is further above his adversaries.

Nightbringer is unassailable in his forum standing, and he likes making grandiose statements.

Apocalypse, at least in the 1990s animated series was really personally powerful but he preferred to destroy his enemies with complex schemes rather than simple marching in and smiting everyone himself. That could fit.

But let's look at Apocalypse's most revealing speech.

Mighty Apocalypse said:
Apocalypse: Evil? I am not malevolent. I simply am... which soon will be more than I can say for you. But then again, I am given pause to wonder, is it possible you are correct, mutant? I have been battling your kind for thousands of years. I ought to have triumphed long ago. But what if, like tortured Sisyphus, I cannot win? Ever? What a cruel joke! Am I doomed to struggle with such filth until the end of time? Perhaps my newfound power can show me the answer...

Does this apply to Nightbringer?

Well I would say that Nightbringer is not malevolent, he is simple is.

Unlike Apocalypse, Nightbringer is not trying to win (otherwise he would enter some of Scalenex's contests). He certainly doesn't seem to be out to destroy anyone.

So he's not like the X-Men 90s series Apocalypse.

He's not trying to force evolution on others like the X-Men Evolution series Apocalypse or the mildly disappointing live action movie.

He's not trying to take over like Apocalypse from the Wolverine and the X-Men series.

Upon further reflection, I believe Nightbringer is simply closer to Stan Pines.

Still, bravo, @Imrahil! I must confess, I'm more in The Last Airbender camp for those posts, but it's fun to see them all.

I had a good laugh over this one. Well played. !!!!!.png

A bit sad to see comparisons to Sidious and Apocalypse left behind only to end up with this Stan Pines character (who I am unfamiliar with). Hahaha :D

I think the best comparison would be...

I sow chaos for chaos' sake. A trickster.

Fight is such an ugly word. I prefer compete. ;) I spur you guys on to compete against one another!

He certainly doesn't seem to be out to destroy anyone.

Yeey! I lost sight of it in the last months, but thanks ;)

Hopefully @Imrahil will be soon forced to pick a new subject. :p

Yep, as I am writing I have only three Pokemon left to post :P we will see what is next

Still, bravo, @Imrahil! I must confess, I'm more in The Last Airbender camp for those posts, but it's fun to see them all.

I am as well, to be fair ;)
The horror is soon over :D

Grrr, !mrahil

I haven't seen it (or even heard of it until now). TV Show? Movie? Novel?

It is a television series that ran from 2012 to 2016, though it only had 40 episodes. Available on Hulu, Disney+, DVDs, and nowhere else.

This is the last time I can recall where Disney made something original. They gave the creator a relative free rein to tell the story he wanted. It is also the last thing Disney produce that's not woke. On the contrary, Alex Hirsh had to deal with conservative censors (S&P) but he had fun making things that technically followed S&P guidelines but violated them in spirit.

Gravity Falls was anomaly for animated shows in that it had a planned ending. Alex Hirsh had a very specific 40 episode arc planned and on the second watching of the series you can see tons of Easter Eggs that show all the plot twists and mysteries. In addition to mysteries, the show had satisfying character arcs, running gags, and a wide variety of jokes and the series inspired a ton of memes. Also it has the emotion gut punches of a good Pixar movie.
