Particularly @Just A Skink, I must say your magnanimity in these matters is impressive. I could never get overly-competitive in a debate with you pal.
I feel like "magnanimity" is a bit too big of a word for me. You flatter, but I thank you nonetheless. I feel the same. You're a good sport about our OT/PT discussions, and I really appreciate that.

Haha, I wouldn't want to see the amount of gory detail he likes to include in his works introduced into Star Wars, but Episode III and Rogue One in particular add a real dose of hero mortality and properly bring the 'War' to Star Wars. More Star Wars works with the level of darkness these two achieve is what we really need to help douse the memories of the piss-poor Sequel Trilogy.
Rogue One is arguably the "darkest" Star Wars movie. You are correct that SW is generally an homage to Flash Gordon-type serials. Because of that Rogue One almost feels a bit out of place, but I still enjoyed it. Plus, the final battle in Rogue One definitely reminded me of the pacing and editing of the RotJ final battle (which I surmise is intentional). I won't say that we need more of this specifically, but we could use better storytelling to improve Star Wars going forward... since Disney will drive it into the ground either way.

I'm just here for the funny memes.

I am no longer interested in the debates between the merits and flaws of the prequel trilogy and original trilogy, though I am pleased that the debate remains civil.
Sorry if we spoiled that for you @Scalenex.
