AoS Amulet of Destiny

So, your making your army and your playing Thunderlizard. Do you put your Amulet of Destiny (5+ Ward) on your Skink Chief on Stegedon (Skink Chad) or do you put it on your Engine of the Gods? I kind of want to put it on Skink Chad to keep the General alive but I know other Armies would probably try to take out the EoTG first before going to Skink Chad secondly. This Army your making also has Lord Kroak in it. What do you all think?

Personally i'd try to protect my general, since it's also the one that will do most of the heavy lifting.
And EotG is good but no more that scary thing it was in its former version, so it wouldn't be my priority target.

I personally like to use amulet of destiny for carnos because well other than eviscerating blade thats what works best for them if you want an overall tankier general yes fucking go for it. you wont be disappointed

Try out Cloak of Feathers on the Skink Chief instead of the Amulet. It seems like way less protection at first glance, but against non-MW the numbers are surprisingly close. The big benefit is that it buffs your base move to 12", which is insane.

It's not worth putting anything defensive on Kroak/Slann (but Itxi Grubs is great if you've got room), just bring a min unit of Saurus Guard and keep him in the Realmshaper Engine. Fills a battleline requirement, and effectively gives him a 2+ ward and 10 extra wounds (plus garrison bonuses) for 115 pts.

Amulet and cloak are both good choices. I like arcane tome a lot too on the chief. Fiery weapon can turn his stomps into 8 attacks 3 damage each and turns him into arcane vassal for the Slann.

Don't need as much defensive stats if everything u get into combat with melts. I bring a screen of knights to keep him alive instead.

Quick math, say 20 attacks, coming at you at 3+/3+/-1 on a basic 4+ save.

Amulet:
3.97 damage (after ward)

Cloak:
4.44 damage (no ward)

So against normal attacks, you're trading in half a wound to be able to move 12" and fly.

Gets weaker against MW though. Say 20 Sentinels are throwing basic aimed shots (3+/4+/-1) at you, with Power of Hysh giving them MWs on a 5+ to hit.

Amulet:
5.92 damage (after ward)

Cloak:
7.77 damage (no ward)

If I thought I was going to see a bunch of Sentinels, I might do Amulet instead. 30 shots with that setup averages 11.66 damage vs Cloak, so there's a good chance your Skink Chief gets deleted before it even gets to charge.

That said, the image of a Stegadon flying across the battlefield like a cruise missile is probably too good for me to pass up.

I was toying with this idea too.
But the chief is already deadly, more hitting power seems like overkill but sooner or later i will try it

In some situations its definitely overkill. But there are models that warrant it. Guy in my local meta plays gargants often with ward saves. In those games can charge the chief into multiple big bads and split his attacks.

Other lists also have some pretty tough saves on a big hero where it can come in clutch.

Good point, in a tournament that build would be really competitive.
The ability to one shot a Gargant is vital

heck i play gargants and i still take flaming weapon on my warstomper. its such a big buff to units with lots of attacks. pinks, gargants, giant monsters, hordes of summoned demonettes now that slaneesh is popular, there is a lot to chew through at the moment and flaming weapon does work and is easy to cast.

It's really hard for me to justify taking flaming weapon over AoDs durability increase which if put on a gargant it is absurd

You take both. Depending on build SoB get to take 3-4 artifacts after white dwarf update.

@Margawt I feel like the answer to your question depends on your playstyle more than anything. if you like to roll on your engine summoning saurus, healing and fishing for the 18, put it on him. If you like to use the skink chief more and smashing things and running around and killing, put it on him instead.

Like what was stated SoB can take 3-4 artifacts so you can take all 3 if ya like but the Amulet of Destiny gives you more effective hp. Cloak is more aggressive and better for those who want to get that punch in quicker

Thanks for your input, My thinking was that the EoTG should be protected as best you can as it is the only unit that has a chance with the right build (Slann or Kroak in it) that can possibly summon something in Coalesced. Whereas, Starborne have the summoning capability and may not take EoTG in most Starborne lists vs how many players may take it in Coalesced. I could be wrong but I just started to play Starborne believe it or not...lol. I've always played Coalesced and just now started to dive into Starborne. I'm starting out with the Fangs of Sotek.

After years of finesse fights and summoning / teleporting shenanigans, a more "brutal" playstyle is refreshing.
