What's wrong with these?

Welcome aboard @Darnok , i saw you also on Carpe Noctem.
If you want, you can present yourself in the "introduction" subforum. ;)

Did so by now, thanks for the reminder! I used to be pretty active on WarSeer years ago, but since that one has died...

Welcome @Darnok of EEFL fame to Lustria! We are honoured to have you join us!

If there is any form of "internet fame" attached to my nickname, I had hoped it would be for my WarSeer times. I've been a mod on there for years, and managed most of the rumour section during that time.

But yeah, I am on other forums as well, trying to be more active these days. Speaking of EEFL and actvity, have a look here!

ANYWAY, back on topic!

Given that old armies - meaning existing collections of WHF armies "legal" in previous editions - will continue to be playable ("We want people to be able to use their old armies if they wish, or to start new ones, or to add new miniatures to old armies – whatever they want."): who else is working on getting more stuff painted in preperation for TOW? Did somebody even start a new army just for this? I'm curious!

I haven't started any new armies as that would cause a divorce even though I'd love a 4th Wood elf army to complete the 4 season theme I've worked on... I am trying to finish a friend's TK army that I've been working on and then clean up my Empire. I also need to get my Dogs of War in order. My High Elves are most likely getting sold as I don't have the time for them.

Well I’m doing some painting for first time in 25 years… And trying to resist picking another army to collect.

Did TOW encourage this? Not really, but it sure got me hopeful that we’ll have a game that continues into the future.

(If it’s bad, I’ll always have the 8th. No-one can take that from me.)

Resistance... is futile.

Yep, same here. The beauty of a solid collection going years back: I have plenty of choice and can always go back.

I was never on WarSeer so I never knew of your fame there, I'm sorry to say... it was only when I joined EEFL that I first spotted some of your posts.

I'm spending most of my time making and painting Fantasy at the moment, in part because since it was executed I have spent most of my time foraging around as many independent retailers as I can looking for some of the last remaining new boxes of Fantasy stuff (and second-hand job-lots).

In particular of note I have started Beastmen (the first models for which I shamefully still haven't yet put together), mainly to be a sixth army and third evil force, but you could also say TOW inspired me somewhat.

Luckily quite a few ranges are rather complete in terms of WHF usability:
  • Chaos has it best, with Beasts, Warriors and Daemons losing little to nothing - and actually gaining new model options for existing units
  • Skaven are in the same position
  • Vampire Counts lost most of the older vampire sculpts, but gained many replacements of other ooold models - still perfectly playable
  • pure Nightgoblin armies have it better than ever (except for a lack of square bases of course)
  • Lizardmen and Dark Elves are both in the camp of "losing very little, still easy to start and collect"
For other armies it is a mix from "some stuff is still there from GW direct" to "good luck finding enough stuff second hand to have a playable army".

Well, TOW will at least revive classical Empire, and probably get most "oldschool" Old World armies - talking Dwarfs, High Elves, O&G here - back into the "playable field".
