8th Ed. Kroak in 2000 pts?

Hey everyone, I just got my hands on an awesome kroak model and I was wondering if he can fit in a 2000 pt list without being completely under powered or over powered for that matter (like bringing a demon prince in a 1000 point battle)
We do play 50% lords and heros if that changes the considerations. Thanks in advance!

For me this question depends wholly on who I am fighting and what my tactics are.

Kroak is one of the few named characters that is actually worth his points.

Who are you going up against?

The possibilities are OnG, high elves, or undead. I have a suspicion it will be undead because I know there is a new mortis engine that might have been recently painted. That being said, all of those armies play differently so its hard to tailor a list.

Well there we go.

For Undead, Kroak is definitely worth points as his spell (which you can cast over and over) does 3D6 hits on Undead and Daemons rather than 2D6 and they are a lightly armoured army. Perfect for the S4 spell. Plus the -1 to hit makes a big difference when you stick him with the Temple Guard (who now become Unbreakable).

Even without the 3D6 over the 2D6, to OnG the spell is still good as they have a lot of lightly armoured troops. Take a Skink priest of two (one with Cloak of Feathers) to get into some great positions and then lay the smack down.

High Elves is chancy. They have a low toughness but have a fair few armoured units. The -1 to hit does a lot less with their superior WS and ASF (which with the Lizardmen initiative means they re-roll all failed rolls to hit). I would say mostly not a good choice here.

Do you think kroak offers enough magical defense against vampire counts though? I know I could get a second priest with a dispel scroll so I have that but a slaan can do it much better, also if I take kroak and 2 priests will it be too much of an investment to be able to get a character that can take on or at least subdue a blender lord?
