Space marines are a terrible framework.Well the problem is that you end up having to tell that one story over and over again.
the space marines are a better frame work, because after they are selected they can go off and do what they want.
The emperor is a fantastic story. A man on life support waiting for something? Who knows?
great very open to interpretation.
The order factions in AoS?
the thing is, chaos is one entity with different expressions.
Order is multiple gods, of equal standing, but separate?
So like the Greek gods but independent?
The chaos gods are clearly defined and you know what they are about.
but all the order gods each do everything.
with 40k it’s simple to understand what’s going on. You just have to know the emperors story.
In aos, it’s random things happening, for inconsisten reasons.
War hammer fantasy was great lore. Because it was all logical. You had the empire you had chaos. The good factions unite against chaos.
etc.
it was simple and small scale. Aos is huge scale with gods and Demi gods etc. But the more big things they add like that, the more the intrigue is diminished. The story ends up feeling light and small.
the stormcast would be better, if they were just some weird monestry of monks. And no one really knew what they were doing.
The biggest problem with space marines is the refusal to kill off named characters. MAC, Dante, Gabriel seth, abbadon a lot of space wolves and a shitload of ultras all should be dead.
