Hello LO!
I have a pretty decent collection of Lizardmen, even though it pales in comparison to some of the larger ones. I'm looking to spend around 100 dollars on new models. Here's what I have:

1 Kroq Gar (old metal version)
1 Saurus Scar Veteran on Carnosaur (WIP)
1 Gor Rok
3 Scar Veterans on Cold Ones (WIP)
1 Ancient Stegadon (WIP)
1 Bastiladon w/ Solar Engine (WIP)
10 Temple Guard
20 Saurus Warriors
8 Cold One Riders
24 Skinks
45 Skinks (WIP)
3 Kroxigor (One WIP)
12 Saurus Warriors(WIP)
13 Cold One Riders (WIP)
3 Ripperdactyl Riders (Missing some parts, WIP)
10 5th ed Saurus Warriors

As you can see this is kinda a mess, have a ton of stuff to paint. I only recently got back into the hobby and never finished a bunch of stuff from a while ago. I know I want to get more temple guard, but after that I'm not really sure what to get. Two Salamanders? Another Ripper/Terradon Box? Another Stegadon? Would really appreciate any advise on what to get as I am a bit overwhelmed with my options!

Looking over your list, I would say more Saurus. Ideally you'd want to be able to field two blocks of 30 (6x5 formation) as they are a must-include choice for your army.

Then definitely Temple Guard up to 30.

I agree with lizards of renown. You need to be able to field alot of saurus warriors, some more tg's wouldn't hurt as well. Got around 130 saurus and 40 TG's. Saurus warriors should normally be pretty cheap. TG's however depends on what models you want, i got 5th edition ones and they are costly. After that i might invest in some sallies, more kroxies and maybe some terradons.

Thanks! I definitely need to thicken my saurus blocks, but I'm wondering about the Kroxigor. I never really play skroxigor, and it is rare that I run more than three. I think sallies are definitely a priority, as my main opponent play WE. Right now I'm thinking 1 saurus box, one TG box, 2 sallies, a terradon unit, and then maybe a couple homebrew lost kingdom units.

All depends indeed what armies you are most likely to play against the most. Although i haven't played WoC for a while, i did play against them alot and after a steep learning curve, i learned i need kroxies against them

Kroxigor are great.

Skink Skirmishers with Javelins are great.

Skroxigor are a horrible unit. All the person has to do is kill the Kroxigor (who always strike last) and then the Skinks are next to useless in hand-to-hand.

I feel like I spend a lot of time defending sub par units. Lol.

I still wanted to add my 2 cents about skroxigor. Basically the only use I have found for them is to play a minimum unit with 11 skinks and 1 krox. It can be a good place to hide a skink priest and I find it works quite well as a flanker to disrupt because the enemy has to kill either the krox and 2 skink or 6 skinks to stop them from being able to disrupt which can be hard to do on the flank. At only 105 pts it can be useful. But it will die like a swarm to anything headon. So I dunno, can be situationally useful. Lol. With m6 and a couple javelins it can deal with chaff decently as well.
I'm not saying they are the best unit but they can have their uses lol.

Also. . . In regards to the original question a second stegadon might be of use because agaisnt a lot of armies 2 works much better than 1. As someone much smarter than me once said "2 is one and 1 is none."

If I can, I take two Stegs at all times.

I have three and once played a battle with all of them. Glorious!

While I agree that a small krox unit is a better flanker in terms of damage, they cannot disrupt steadfast without being min. 300 pts. Also at 300 points they can't take more than 2 wounds before not being able to disrupt. I guess the high dmg output might be enough to counteract the opponents ranks. Against maybe a deep unit of Phoenix guard for example the skrox could excel at disrupting for few points.

I understand.

I have yet to find someone who has, in real life, had success with Skroxigor units in this way. In my experience, they bleed combat resolution and are not worth their points.

If you have had success with this, fair enough.

I ask as I’ve found Saurus to be a bit disappointing unless they have magical support. I think of them as ‘the 4’s’. Hit on 4’s. Str/T of 4. Armour of 4. Everything is a bit middling. Of course with magic they become excellent but so do many things.

Well, my rationale for someone purchasing an army is that Saurus are excellent anvil troops. They will stay in the fight with cold blooded and allow flanking attacks while still doing some damage on their own. Stick in a character and you have a very decent anvil.

I always try to pair a saurus block with a Steg as a flank charge from one of these (where they are also a bit protected from attacks) is an awesome combo.

Don’t get me wrong, I own a shitload of Skinks and ALWAYS take Skink Skirmishers as they are so versatile and useful.

I don’t think anyone should have a Lizardmen army without being able to field two decent blocks of Saurus. For the above reasons.
