I am not sure you can draw a straight line from Get Woke to Go Broke here.
CBS was formed in 1927 when it consolidated several radio broadcasting networks under one banner and after dominating radio for decades was a pioneer of early TV.
They used to have a gazillion shows and franchises. If one failed, you had another success to pick up the slack.
Even if the new Star Trek shows were amazingly good, I don't think that's enough to keep CBS All Access afloat when they almost literally have no other shows.
It sucked for HBO when Game of Throne Season 8 fell off a cliff, but HBO has other stuff. CBS has
nothing other than crap Star Trek.
The funny thing is, I think Star Trek can recover easier than Star Wars. Star Trek has show it has been able to survive in deep hibernation and rewaken decades later surviving on fan loyalty in the iterim.
Then again maybe I'm wrong. A lot of people
hate the current Kathleen Kennedy inspired Star Wars items being churned out.
It's not so much that old school Star Trek fans hate the new Star Trek shows. At this point, they are mostly indifferent to it. In show business, it is better to be hated than to be ignored.
In some level the fact that
no one is talking about Rey is a bigger problem for Lucas Film than the people angrily talking about Gina Corano being fired.
