AoS Help against Ogors

Stonehorn build in particular the coalesced doesnt do as much as you would think, all it does really is negate the bonus damage on a charge they get and you still suffer the impact hit mortals

Yeah, eurlbad stonehorn lists can be pretty nasty into coalesced just cause how many mortals it pushes out.
 
on the subject of stonehorns, how many reasonable ways do we have of focusing them down in a turn?
given their prevalence it should be something to consider

as for scaly skin, i might be in the minority when i say i like the -1 damage, it can reduce damage significantly (although im still frustrated by the faq that says we cant block mortal wounds, despite the fact that mortal wounds are done in chunks),

Things like stonehorns are what i find salamanders do best at and is what their role is in my armies.
Put enough units in and they can be taken down in a burst but they are not easy to shift from full
To dead in a turn, especially the frostlord with a 3+ save
 
I think i would prefer this to the -1 damage.
A 6+ shrug army wide, 5+ would be too good i think
I mean Disgustingly resilient is an almost army wide 5+, and ours would only be available IF coalesced.... seems a reasonable "half the faction" rule lol. but yeah, id take the 6+ over the -1 to non-mortal damage any day of the weak. or hell, just make it -1 to non-mortals and make the minimum zero instead of 1

oh it absolutely would... that's why it was a throwaway comment at the and after the serious suggestions lol
 
Interesting note on metalcruncher (or whatever it's called) trait: it affects only 2+/3+/4+ save characteristics, so bastiladons in their upper profile won't be affected. So if a bastiladon charges stonehorn, and there are no other special rules to deal MWs, it can pretty much shut it down for a couple of turns.
 
True, but normally mortals from a charge would bracket it to a 2+ anyway
 
Don't allow it to charge you, charge first.
 
Well, my usual problem with them, is they are fast. So, long movement and then the charge can be scarry. Plus the big ones have a good save and later the 5+ FNP which tends to work so many times...

it will be rare that it is ever in range for you to charge it without it already having been tied up by something else

Skink screens are always the answer though. I have limited experience with BCR build, but in my games 6 salamanders were more than enough to remove a mammoth a turn.

If they are stopped by skinks, there should be no problem with a counter charge.

Against ogors they normally give away first turn.
Against a potential Double you need at least 2 layers of screen. Its risky but doable
