AoS Constellations & Command Abilities

You do not have to play with one of the constellation subfactions. You do have to decided to be Starborne or Coalesced though.

In Age of Sigmar second edition, all heroes can use any of the command abilities on their Warscroll or any of the 6 Generic command abilities in the Core Rules. It cost 1 Command Point per use of any Command Ability.
 
Also in addition to that, certain command abilities can only be used by that hero if he is the general, or get bonus effects when he is the general as opposed to random hero #435. They will specify so.

Furthermore you get 1 free command point at the start of each turn.
1 additional command point per battalion that you field at the start of the turn.
You can also buy additional command points when you build your army at 50 points each (usefull for leftover points)

And there are of course abilities that may generate additional command points throughout the game when certain conditions are met (e.g. our slann can generate some)

Look carefully at how many command points you'l have available at any given time and tailor your strategy too it.
 
Hi, I have some doubts on what can I choose. I mean which constalation etc.
I understand that I need to choose if I'm coalesced or starborne, but what next? Do I need to pick one of the four constelations? Or are there other combinations?

For example can I take coalesced for my units + koatls claw(for +1 hit on charge) but make a skink starpriest as my general with his standard command traits? Nimble + cloak of feather artifact?

Please help me understand more, as I would love to take the most out of my lizards :(
 
you can pick one of the following:

- coalesced
- coalesced koatl's claw
- coalesced thunder lizard
- starborne
- starbone dractothian's tail
- starborne fangs of sotek

If you pick a specific constelation and your general is of the appropriate type then you need to use that general trait.
E.g. a starborne fangs of sotek saurus general needs to use old and grizzled.

However, if you use a different type of general you can pick what you want. So for example a starborne fangs of sotek skink general can pick any of the skink traits.

The artifact from the constallation is mandatory. So if you pick fangs of sotek you need to give the serpent god's dagger to someone. And you need to bring a battellion if you want a second artifact.
 
Omg this opens so much new ways of building my army... Till now I thought that when choosing one of the four constellations I need to take their trait etc. And if I wanted anything else I had too select only between starborne and coalesced!

So I can build now something like this:
Coalesced
Koatl's Claw
General: Engine of the gods
Trait: nimble
Scarvet on carnosaur+ eviscerating blade
3x5 saurus knights
Battalion firelance temple host + artifact for engine of the gods cloak or stegadon helm

Hope I've understood this the right way:D

subfactions all say something along the lines of "The first <subfaction> hero to recieve an artifact needs to be equiped with <subfaction specific artifact>" in their description.

It's honestly kind of a stupid rule.

Yes, I knew that part ;)
But I was referring to the Battalion means an extra artifact bit.

Yes, when you take a battalion you get the following: the special rules for the specific battalion, the ability to deploy all of the units in the battalion with one drop, an extra command point, and an extra artifact for your heroes.

ah yeah, battalions give + 1 artifact and +1 mount trait and all equivalent stuff. Usually mentioned in the description of artifacts/mount traits/etc.
 
Another question, after for example choosing kotals claw and giving the eviscerating blade to one of my heroes and adding a battalion. Can I select another artifact from one of the four constellations? For example the fusil of conflagration? Or is it restricted only for the thunder lizards?

Checking in the warscroll builder it seems I'm restricted to the 3 saurus artifacts which are kinda dull.
 
you're restricted to the constelation artifact & the race appropriate artifacts (so saurus artifacts for saurus). You can't use an artifact from a different constelation.
 
Now I'm confused for which should I choose.
I've planned to use Koatls Claw
Stegadon with skink chef general (nimble+stegadon helmet)
Scarvet+carno (blade artefact)
Skink starpriest
3x5 saurus knights
Firelance temple batalion

I cannot change my units, as we already showed to each other what we will use. My enemies will be both Lumineths and Stormcasts (yes we are playing 2v2). I can only change the traits artefacts etc. Please remember that we are amateurs and play once a week a friendly match:) of course I wanna win!
 
Don't worry too much about it, your list is perfectly fine for a friendly match. Just experiment and see if you prefer using nimble over the Koatl general trait.
 
Agreed. If it's just a friendly game then go with what you have planned. If you find yourself short on CP then you know what to adjust in the future.
