Blog Suds Painting & Kitbashes of 2020

O wow, that looks wonderfull.
I like the contrast of the Black and Yellow/Orange, somehow this made me think of the Royal Guards of Minas Thirith.

Love the berch spear shafts they look like real Wood.
Curious to see a full unit of those.

How will you do the shields?

Grrr, Imrahil

Thank you! I haven't seen that movie in so long that I can't picture them but I believe it! With Fall right around the corner I wanted something a bit... Fall themed...plus me being me wanted something a tad different than the typical Lumineth scheme. It has evolved into what she is now :)

Thanks, me too! I took the idea from my Fyreslayer, and I also just LOVE birch. A fully paintrd regiment/group like this will look awesome no doubt

Shield im not 100% I may switch the black and orange or I may make the orange ajd red the dominste colors and black the edge color as orange is on the body...we shall see

Hey everyone,

I hope you all are doing well, I myself am doing pretty well, been busy in and outside of the hobby. We are doing stuff around the house starting with the downstairs, soon however we are going to be cleaning and updating the office. :) That means a proper space to paint instead of at the kitchen table! Will be a bit but its in the works!

Aside from that Ive begun a Dawnrider for my Lumineth! I primed it the other day, with the intent to prime my Ark also so I could finish my Kitbash, however with it being colder here now I didnt realize it was a tad humid. The Dawnrider turned out fine, I quickly did a wash of Nuln oil to wipe away any primer clumps, I didnt want to risk the ark and its skinks though. Monday and Tuesday should be better for priming!:D

The Dawnrider sculpts are absolutely gorgeous and I'm really excited to paint them, the horses especially. For the horses I am planning a mixture of Appaloosa, Spotted Mustang and Pinto Horse schemes. Although they will be challanging I think it will turn out really well. So far I have just the base colors down, it was late and didnt do much.

So far the colors used are: Russ Grey, Lugganath Orange, Dragon Bright Orange & Leadbelcher. Chaos Black Primer.

I have also finished the first Warden! Down below is the total color break down, I used 28ish in total

Lumineth Warden:

Primer: Chaos Black, touch ups in Abaddon Black

Armor/Cloth: Chaos Black/ Abaddon Black, dry brush Eshin Grey > Skavenblight dinge > Wash with Nuln

Chainmail: Leadbelcher, Shaded w/ Nuln Oil

Outlines & Symbol: Jokaero Orange, Highlighted w/ Fire Dragon Bright on points of armor/cloth. Shaded w/Cassandora Yellow

Tabard: Wild Rider Red, Highlighted w/ Gal Vorbak Red. Shaded w/Blood Angels Red

Plume: Lugganath Orange, Highlighted w/ Fire Dragon Bright & Wild Rider Red, Highlighted w/ Gal Vorbak Red. Shaded w/ Cassandora Yellow

Pike Shaft: Corax White Base, Highlighted w/ White Scar & marked with Abaddon Black. Redrributor Gold + Wild Rider Red. No wash.

Pike Blade: Chaos Black, Dry Brush: Fire Bright Orange, Yriel Yellow, Phalanx Yellow & White Scar. No wash

Skin: Averland Sunset (eyes: Yriel Yellow) Washed with Cassandora Yellow.

Sword: Ratskin Flesh, Wild Rider Red, ret Armor, deathclaw brown. Shaded with Reikland Fleshshade

Shield: Wild Rider Red, Abaddon Black & Jokaero Orange. Shaded with Cassandora Yellow.

Gems: Variant 1 - Warpstone Green > Sybarite Green > Gauss Blaster Green / Variant 2 - Xereus Purple > Lilac (shaded by appropriate wash given location of gem)

Base: Vallejo Light Brown mud, Agrax Earthshade x2 shades

Note: The dry brush to the cloth hasn't been applied yet as I just realized after taking these pictures & it being pointed out that I hadn't done it yet.

The idea is to differentiate the Cavalry from the Infantry a bit with the blue-grey, the Sentinels (archers) will likely be the Wardens colors switched around a bit when I get them.

I have no idea how ill do my cow mountain...

Been painting off and on but been doing some other stuff also, here is a small update before Dinner/Movie time

First time doing horses, I decided to make my own skin tone mixing 2 browns, 1 yellow and an orange, will likely be doing large splotches of white maybe?

I am very much in Love with your infantry ;)
Though he can bennefit from some highlights. Maybe a little Eshin Grey on the Black.

I myself like an overall colorscheme to the army, but I can see the logic behind it.

You got all out on the new models I see, that is a majestic model, intrigued to see how he will turn out.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you! I too love my Warden scheme lol but agreed, I did forget to highlight/dry brush the black which I'm gonna go back and do soon, but gonna finish this horse first

It does seem most people do a fully unified color scheme, which does look gorgeous. Me being me however lol just wanted to do something different, and I wanted something closer to the official Iliatha concept art color scheme:

I actually may have said on an official tutorial that their paint guide was wrong and used this picture to source why (they were using white and not the bluer grey here), they didn't like it lol

These are the other Nations incase others dont have the battletome yet:

20200909_191237.jpg 20200909_191339.jpg 20200909_191319.jpg

All of them have cool lore, Iliatha just sticks out to me the most and interests me the most.

It's the first Army that's interested me since Seraphon beyond bits for kitbashing, so yeah lol Using some of my savings to get everything except Teclis (for now), and be good for winter :p

I certainly try!

Here is a small update:

Mixing a few of my own colors: The skin and mane/tail end. Also working on markings, for this and the next Im using American Painted Horses. I love horses, always have, this however is the first time ever painting them, Im pretty pleased so far!

All base coats thus far except 1 layer of Reikland Fleshshade on the first skin tone before adding the markings.

For my homebrew not only did my Iliathan City/Warhost clone themselves, they also started cloning the best horses of purest genes to have the best cavalry.

So I will have varying horse breeds for my army: The three I have decided on are Appaloosa, Mustang and American Painted. The horsemasters horses will be extra special

I have finished my first horse! Not only the first of the unit, but my first horse ever. Base is being worked on and will be revealed when the rider is done :)

This model I have dedicated to my mom, she loves horses and used to draw them for me as a kid. She would tell me of when she would ride horses as a kid, just good memories. So this first model is for her.

Her favorite horse breed is the American Painted, so that is what i have decided for my first and second horse.

I plan to start the rider tomorrow or Tuesday

Ita late but I'll do a break down of colors in aj edit tomorrow sometime :)

Let me know what you think, C&C always welcome! Definitely a few touch ups here and there I can see

Check out Microworld Games. I've looked at their stock, it would be easy. to make a 6mm lizardman army from their stock. Great War Lizard would make a great two headed Dread Saurian!

Very nice work on the horse :artist: looks amazing.
His armor is missing something depth of Color die my taste. Maybe a wash over the blue and Orange (optionaly an extra highlight).

The blue maybe as there isnt a wash on it (i personally like the color as is, though still debating Drakenhof Nightshade on it), as foe the orange... yeah lol its got 2 ish layers of Cassandora yellow, though i could see the edges maybe having something. This one horse has already taken so long lol im not gonna totally worry about much other than minor touch ups. Good eye though

Still not sure how I feel about these new elf models, but the black-and-orange color scheme I am enjoying immensely. Well done painting them :artist:

@Imrahil what color would you shade the russ blue and highlight the orange with?

This depends on the blue and orange that you took.

But for the shade you could go Drakenhof Nightshade, but the risk is it turns out blue-er then you initially where going for.
Your other options might be Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade. this will leave it the same type of blue but just darkens it more.

Since you Shaded the orange with Cassandra Yellow I guess you want to highlight it more to a yellow gradient of orange.
It looks like you used Fire Dragon Bright orange, you could highlight it with Yriel Yellow.
If you like a more safer approach you could go for a more Salmon hihglight of Lugganath Orange(but this might get to close to the color of the armor's edges and the reigns)

Do as you like ;) and if you are happy with your model then don't change or add a thing. In the end it is all about how you feel about the painted model.
(don't let me pressure you)

Good luck deciding ;)

 Just now I read that you want to do the edges of the Orange pieces. This looks like a base of Squig Orange, than I would definitely go for the Lugganath Orange.
