To be fair, we actually did quite well in the last World Cup, much better than we’d done in the Rooney days, but we could have defeated Croatia easily if our lads hadn’t got complacent and reverted to Rooney tactics after that first goal.

It's been said that all modern sports are derivatives of gladiatorial combat. This is more obvious with Rugby and American football but Soccer/football can be aggressive.

Or maybe it's just because Maori are badass and New Zealand was wise to assimilate their power.

I mean it can get aggressive and all, but I want to see LIONS. The worst part about soccer is that they don’t even have swords!

So in high school, my friends and I played amateur HEMA with foam weapons until one of my friends took it WAY too far and created a league and sort of ruined the causal fun.

Anyway, we played a game of football with weapons. You fake killed people instead of tackling them (it's safer than real American football!). Unfortunately we quickly learned that it was a lot better for ever has the ball to not carry a weapon and just run fast. You cannot run as fast with a sword and shield in hand.
