Blog NIGHTBRINGER's Painting Blog - 1000 point (not so) year end Chaos Dwarfs challenge (78.2%)

That's a really nice model!
You went the extra mile and painted all the little details.

Good job! :)
Thank you! I'm pretty happy with it.

It definitely took a lot of time and was problematic because it had to be painted while mostly unassembled. The hellcannon is one of my favourite models though, so it was worth the effort.

Meme god is also a great painter.
Thanks for the kind words. Now back to the memes (they are easier than painting!).

About bloody time .
I know. I know.

Better late than never??:troll:

Unfortunately my new Chaos Dwarf Infernal Guard only come with round bases. Additionally, I don't have enough spare square bases without a slot.

Problem... secondary problem... solution!

A clever solution! :)

I just paint and flock over bases that have a slot if I have to use them for minis without slots, which does work but your approach seems to be a bit more substantial ;)

I have them pretty much assembled (with the exception of their shields which I plan to paint separately). 5 have been put on their bases, with 8 more ready to go. They are extremely tight fit when ranking up, so I'm going to be number the bottom of their bases and very carefully arrange them so they rank up nicely.

As you can see, with tedious positioning and specific/ordered placement, they can be ranked up...

It's been a lot of work cleaning them up and assembling them, but I do love these models. Once they are all placed on their numbered bases, I'll have to go and greenstuff the odd air bubble here and there (of which there aren't too many).

Thank you!

Excellent purchase, looking forward to seeing these dudes complete!

It is easy to see why the “great minds” of The Citadel bumped up the basing size.

Bulk Creep (it’s like scale creep but it reduces elbow room) has gotten out of hand.
It's one of the things that I really dislike about 8th edition WFB... ranking up models can be a really big pain in the butt. Either the bases are too small or the models are too big!

From a hobby perspective it would be great if bases were bumped up in size 5-10mm.
  • 20mm x 20mm ➤ 25mm x25mm
  • 25mm x 25mm ➤ 30mm x 30mm
  • 40mm x 40mm ➤ 50mm x 50mm
  • 50mm x 50mm ➤ 60mm x 60mm

These Infernal Guard have been among the worst I have seen in terms of ranking up. If they were on 25mm bases things would be infinitely easier!

Green stuffed a few gaps and bubbles in my 13 strong Infernal Guard unit. Also made a 5X6 movement tray (because they will be joined by allies at some point)... the glue is currently drying and should be ready tomorrow!

Now the difficult part... settling on a paint scheme. I have a few ideas rattling around. :artist:

I guess I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself. I need to base them too! Not sure if I want to go with a glue+sand finish or use my citadel Mordant Earth technical paint (which I have never used :bucktooth:). Any tips for using a crackle technical paint?

I do the same. Either balsa or matches or paddle pop sticks (the last being upload_2020-2-16_18-37-51.jpeg)

Great minds think alike! :)
