I have been gifted the Start Collecting box recently, and can't wait to assemble it.

However, having never played lizards before, I am a bit confused as to where to go from here.

What I fascinates me most about the Seraphon models are the behemoth units. Carnos, stegadons etc. However, I love the look of most of the units.

I prefer to field units that look cool, but of course I also want to have fun games. I am not a competitive player, but it is not fun getting completely obliterated every game.

So any advice on where to go from the SC box, to Fielding fx a good starting army of about 1000-1500 points.

I am also need to AoS, so am army that has a bit of everything would be great, so I can get a hang of all the aspects of the game and the Seraphon.

So as it is, I am looking for advice on two things:

1) A list made from the SC box, so I know what to build from it.

2) What to get next for a 1000-1500 points list, that I can work towards.

All advice are welcome!

Welcome to Lustria!

Here are two list. This first is to expand on from the SC Box if you are planning to head toward Shadowstrike Starhost. The other is based off your other post where you listed Eternity Warden and Saurus Guard. Make sure you check out @Crowsfoot's SCBox guide.

Expanded SCbox list:
Allegiance: Seraphon

Leaders:
Slann Starmaster
(260)
- General
- Trait: Great Rememberer
- Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices
- Spell: Meteoric Convocation

Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (240)

Battlelin:
10 x Saurus Warriors (90)
- Clubs
5 x Saurus Knights (80)
- Lances

Units
6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs:
Balewind Vortex (40)

Total: 990 / 1000
Extra Command Points: 0
Allies: 0 / 200
Wounds: 57

Note: If you want to focus your army around Saurus Warriors then you might want to consider spears, as they generally preform better in units of 30+ than club do.

Eternal Starhost:
Allegiance: Seraphon
-Mortal Realm: Ulgu

Leaders:
Slann Starmaster
(260)
- General
- Trait: Great Rememberer
- Artefact: Miasmatic Blade
- Spell: Meteoric Convocation

Saurus Eternity Warden (140)
- Artefact: Spellmirror
Skink Priest (80)
- Priestly Trappings

Battleline:
10 x Saurus Guard (160)
5 x Saurus Guard (80)
5 x Saurus Guard (80)

Battalions
Eternal Starhost
(150)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs:
Balewind Vortex
(40)

Total: 990 / 1000
Extra Command Points: 1
Allies: 0 / 200
Wounds: 38

Note: Chances are at some point you will want to get a Skink Starpriest. If your group isn't too strict they might let you proxy one as a Skink priest in this list.

Just Realized I confused with you another player. LoL Sorry if the Eternal Starhost isn't helpful :D

No worries mate :) The Eternal Starhost actually looks interesting aswell.

From what I gather, no matter what, my next stop is the Slann. And I presume he is used primarily for summoning?

Regardless, the first list looks good, and has a bit of everything, so I will most likely work my way towards that.

I thank you very much for your reply and the warm welcome. :)

So are any of the bigger dinos (stegadon, bastilodon) worth it, or do they just look cool? Are they viable in a list of this size?
Yes and no. For big dinosaurs to work you need to invest some in them.

Bastiladons work optimally in a thunder quake rerolling everything

Stegadons are cool, but honestly I’ve never really seen them used, and it’s just better to run it as an engine of the gods.

troglodons don’t really need much, just summon them and throw it at something

carnosaurs can be good, but you need to ensure a first strike, either using doppelgänger cloak on an oldblood or sword of judgement on a scar veteran

Thank you very much. With that in mind, I think I will build towards the first list LizardWizard posted. It seems a great entry point to the game, and requiring only a few extra models on top of what I have.

Then, once I get my head in the game, I might work towards thunderquake.

Engine or the gods looks cool, and seems ok game wise, as far as my limited knowledge takes me, albeit at higher point-value games.
