I'm sure a number of you have been checking the Warhammer Community site as of late, but in case you haven't been keeping up, Games Workshop is now collaborating with Marvel to create Warhammer comics.

Games Workshop and Marvel Comics Team-up!
Yeah, you read that right. Games Workshop and Marvel are collaborating to create Warhammer comics! Even better, the first comics are due to land in autumn 2020. Yeah, we know – it’s super rad.

As everyone knows,* Marvel Comics are the name behind many of the world’s best-loved super hero characters (you know, like Spider-Man, the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four). With more than 80 years of comics experience, Marvel has built an amazing reputation for bringing together the best comic book writers and artists to forge stories that span generations. It’s not for nothing that Marvel has cemented itself as a household name.

We haven’t got any more details we can share right now (we like to imagine that, even as we write, super-cool clandestine meetings are being conducted in a hidden lair somewhere) but, rest assured, as soon as there’s more information, we’ll be bringing it to you right here.

In the meantime, why not head over to the Warhammer 40,000 andWarhammer Age of Sigmar Facebook pages and share which subjects, heroes or places from Warhammer you’d like to see brought to life in the pages of a Marvel comic.**

* Unless they’ve spent the last 75 years frozen in ice
** And suggest the onomatopoeia for the firing-noises of the 41st Millennium’s more exotic guns.

Aaaaarrrgh.

It is an obvious thing to do. Since many Indy shops that sold comics also sold Warhammer. But Aaarrgh.

Personally, my initial thoughts on the matter revolved around crossover fanfiction involving the Emperor "hiding" among humanity in the MCU.

...Well, "hiding" in the only way a demigod can hide:

I am kinda facinated by this collaboration but i don't think it is going to be anything special. GW will probaly put some hefty restrictions on what the writers can and can't do, and unless they get writers that are invested in 40k, such as Dan Abnett, they might not be able to do the universe that much Justice and just be bland. Though we don't know much right now besides a release date, so it might be worth checking out when it arrives. Marvel has had a good track record with IPs that weren't their own such as Conan and the Vader comics.
One thing i hope right now is that this doesn't turn into another warhammer adventures incident, and by incident i mean how a large chunk of the 40k fanbase threw a massive hissy fit and claimed the franchise was going to be ruined forever, and it all turned out to not effect the larger warhammer universe at all.

Oh and of course one thing to mention:
I guess it will be all/mostly 40k? Which isn't really interesting for me.
Fantasy was blown up and AoS is still too new, so that only leaves 40k left. They could expand into some of the specialist 40k games such as Necromunda (gang warfare) and Gorkamorka ( Mad Max but with orkz).

Why is AoS too new for comics?

Why is AoS too new for comics?

New might not have been the right word to use, but i just think that AoS is still something that needs to be fleshed out more in terms of lore, factions and have a bigger name to it than it has now. Most "Geek" communities have an understanding or at the very least know of 40k, AoS still needs to be a bigger and more recognisable brand in it's own right. But all of that is just my opinion, maybe throwing AoS out there in the world might be what the game needs.
