Didn't know if any of you KoW fans already know about this, but I'm interested to know what changes they're going to make, and I'm hoping they'll release a PDF of it like they did with 2nd Edition. The first wave of Third Edition stuff is on pre-order and will be on its way on 21st October:

I've noticed that they've changed the name of the setting to be called Pannithor, so I don't know if there will be any different factions to those in the previous edition or if all the armies in 2nd Edition will be usable in this edition too. They've got a short story writing competition running at the moment (closing date 30th August) where all stories have to feature one or more of Salamanders, Ratkin, Twilight Kin or the Herd, so looks like Salamanders will certainly continue to be supported and Twilight Kin are coming back, as I noticed they stopped selling Twilight Kin models in Second Edition.
 
they've confirmed in social media Q&A's that all the armies from the 2nd edition will still be in the 3rd edition. they have shifted some around book wise, with some of the old main book ones appearing in the "armies of pannithor" sourcebook that drops a few months after the new main book. the main book will basically have the armies that have extensive mantic support.

we will also be getting another 4 all new armies as well in that follow up book, five is twilight kin is not included. (probably is)


they are also adding a ton of additional lore, another 200 some pages worth compared ot the 2nd edition book, including apparently more fluff about the actual units in the army lists, not just a brief paragraph.

they are adding a new unit classification, Titans, which are units like the colossal giant and similar, with the larger base sizes.

the Pheonix (of the basilean list) apparently is now a titan, and the salamanders can take it.

it also looks like they'll be better organizing the army lists to make it more clear what each unit is use wise.

Just had a look at that, and I’m pleased to see Empire of Dust will have an army list in the main rulebook (as I missed out on Tomb Kings and I like the look of the Empire of Dust minis released so far). I’m hoping this will mean then that Mantic will be giving them more support than in Second Edition, where they were introduced through Uncharted Empires after GW ditched Tomb Kings, and that they will be releasing some more miniatures for them in the future.

Interesting to see that the Phoenix will become a Salamanders unit, as although it does make sense because Salamaders are born from volcanoes contrary to Warhammer Lizardmen, the Phoenix is still a bird, which will make it stand out a little from the reptilian Salamander units.

My main concern with the Titans bit is that I hope they don’t make Titans game-breaking like Warhammer 40K did with Lords of War in Seventh Edition onwards, as otherwise it’ll just become an arm’s race between who can buy, paint and field the biggest Titan first, which is exactly what happened in 40K.
 
given that the "original" titan units (on the 75mm bases) are the Colossal Giant, Abyssal Chroneas, Shadowhulk, and Nightstalker Terror from 2nd edition, i doubt that they will. currently those units are powerful, but they are Monster units and thus limited in how many you can take, as well as having a pretty high points cost. their stats generally are on par with a regiment of troops, they just tend to have extra specials.

Mantic is pretty good about learning what not to do from Warhammer.

It is kind of their (unwritten) mission statement.
 
Good to know they are coming out with a new edition, I will have to check it out! I really enjoyed their KOW Historicals book.
 
Doing more research on the 3rd edition and I found this video, which had a very neat summary of KOW armies in general:


Granted this is for 2nd edition, but he broke down the armies into four pretty simple categories: Grinding/Alpha Strike/Shooting/Finesse

Almost a Earth/Fire/Air/Water set of styles going on. I like the list he gave too, it is useful for those looking for a specific kind of faction playstyle to play. Granted each army can fall into more than one category depending on the army list.

Grinding (attrition, high HP/defense/healing, combat, also high body count/hoardes to soak up casualties)

Uncharted Empires 3rd edition is supposed to have started shipping this week, did somebody get his own yet ? I am really curious about what options the Salamanders got outside what was shown in the youtube preview.

At worst I plan to buy the pdf version of the book but it won't be available until friday ... :(
 
I think that the kaisenor gained more attacks :

Kaisenor lancers (Cav)
Speed 8
Me 4+
Def 5+
Troop has 10 attacks for 125 points
Regiment has 20 attacks for 195 points
CS(1) and TC(1), no other special rule

They are expensive,but they are as tough as any heavy cav, and while they only have Me4+ where most knight units have 3+, they do have more attacks and CS for more standing power, I think that they are in fact very good.
