GW News: LAS VEGAS OPEN 2025

And as the AoS Open Day of 2019 draws to a close, GW have left us with one last bit of news (here’s the video Canas):

Ok, I’m calling Settra and Tomb Kings 2.0 - Tithe Of Bones, Tomb Kings were Skeletons and mummies, all made out of bones. The video says the character was born long before Sigmar’s rise to power, Settra ruled Nehekhara long before Sigmar was even born. The character died and was reborn, Settra was blown up by Nagash, but easily could have been reborn and then taken by Nagash to be his slave, a twisted parody of the original goings-on where Settra was king and Nagash the subject that attempted to usurp him. The character’s eastern accent hints at Settra’s Egyptian aesthetics, and tithe is a payment to a higher authority, whether a king or a religious body, and Settra certainly was a king in his past life.

I've seen this sentiment many times now regarding the return of the Tomb Kings and Settra, but i just don't see it happening, atleast not in the literal sense. I think this new faction will be the new Death rattle with wights and skeletons en masse, but i also feel that the faction will make heavy use of skeletal constructs such as the Morghast and take inspiration from the constructs of the tomb kings. Also a thing to note is that the music in the video is Mongolian folk music.

Also the return of Settra, i just don't see it happening, but i still see the cruel punishment that Nagash could have given to the one who never serves by making him thrall to Nagash's service. The narrator is the entity that was released from the stormvault, and he doens't look very Settra like or even undead. "He was born long before Sigmar's rise to power" that would still place him in the AoS timeline since Sigmar showed up in the mortal realms during the age of myth and just lollygagged around for centuries before he became the storm god.

Also i would like some new characters in AoS, some characters that can give the setting an identity of it's own and not just rely on the already established charaters of the world that was.

My guess is that the new death army will be skeletons, but it will feature a lot of eastern/egyptian designs and it will be a sort of spiritual succesor to the Tomb Kings.

Maybe it is Krell, not Settra?
I admit it wouldn't fit the music that well, but it might fit the words better.
Krell has always been a loyal servant as far as I know, he has been a Mortarch, a leader of the Deathrattle faction (or how it was called back then) and then Sigmar beat him, and imprisoned him because obviously he wasn't able to destroy him for good.

But he escaped from the soul thief's prison.
And he is back to lead an unending tithe of Skeletons.

Seems to fit, Im concerned with how much undead stuff they keep churning out though. You'd Think they'd run out of zombie and Skeleton variations by now..
Let them have the year of death considering the current arc is soulwars.

I agree with @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl although some people are saying the music sounds more far Eastern or middle Eastern and I don't know maybe they come up with a new undead army like they've come up with new Armies for order

I just wish they tied in more with other factions, like the soul wars box. Have them fight something other than SCE. Have the other factions being released have more than passing mention of the wars in the fluff along the lines of "yeah the soulwars were going on, so they were forced to finally get of their asses and join the fighting at large".

It's a bit weird at this point.

Also, it'd be significantly more interesting if Nagash didn't just rule everything. Right now it feels too much like 1 humongous faction.

so does chaos with archaon and sigmar with free cities.

Nagash rules death, but there is segmentation from the Mortarchs and their legions.

as to tying in with other factions. The death video is "tithe of bones" and the ogre video specifically states "pact of bones" and "Feast of bones".

well yeah, but Chaos at least has constant infighting going on with the various sub-factions only cooperating when Archeon literally stands next to them and threatens to punch them if they don't (and even then they'l backstab eachother…) and the subfactions are very very very distinct. For undeath Nagash is so much in control, and most thralls are so mindless, that there just isn't much of anything going on. It desperatly needs some stuff that can act independent from Nagash. Right now the closest thing we have is that some of the Mortarchs occasionally think "I don't wanne be ruled by Nagash cuz I'm the rightfull king" and then Nagash looks at them and they submit cuz they don't want to be permanently killed.

The tie in here is a nice though, I'm curious what they'l make of it.

I think it’s principally to show Death players that their Grand Alliance is still getting love. The thing is with Death, GW shot themselves in the foot really by making the Death Grand Alliance exclusively everything loyal to Nagash alone, so they are much more restricted on what new factions they can release for this Grand Alliance compared to Order, for example - they have to make new undead armies if they want to bring out new Death factions.

The music maybe Mongolian, but certainly in Fantasy the Ogres were designed to be like the Mongols with their moustaches and all, so having Mongolian undead would probably clash with them.

We do have some certainties in that the character definitely is from some Middle or Far Eastern kingdom, perhaps Egypt or perhaps somewhere like a Warhammer equivalent of Persia, India, China (Cathay 2.0?) or Japan (Nippon 2.0?), the faction will feature skeletons and/or Mummies due to the whole ‘Tithe of Bones’ thing

I know it is a bit of a long shot to have Settra back, but I would honestly be happy even if the new faction was similar to Tomb Kings in aesthetics alone, as I would still be interested in any sort of undead with Egyptian aesthetics - currently the Vampire Counts-based Death factions we currently have just don’t do it for me and any sort of Death faction that went in a different direction to the generic undead would likely have me interested. After all, the Undead in Warcraft III had some Egyptian-style units like the Liches and the Crypt Lords:

Anub%27arak_Traitor_King.jpg

Even if it was evil Egyptian undead along this sort of line rather than a more neutral faction like Tomb Kings were, it would still catch my eye a lot more than the current sameness old stuff for Death.

That would honestly be the biggest anticlimax since Blackstone Fortress was revealed to be mostly Imperium vs Chaos yet again.

The last thing we need is yet more Vampire Counts undead lead by a character that was arguably almost as boring as Alarielle in 8th Edition (and thus one of the least worthy to resurrect), and it would be completely ignorant of the whole eastern themes in the music, the architecture and the accent of the character.

Also according to TGA on their Rumour Thread, I found that it was pretty much confirmed by a Warhammer Weekly team (?) that Tomb Kings would return in an AoS style.

Meh, I guess if they finally release a undeath faction that can contest Nagash's dominance that can be interesting...

Imho I don't get why the nighthaunt were put under his control as well. Nagash losing control over the ritual was an excellent moment to introduce a splinter undeath faction.

Okay i found a passage of text posted on TGA about the entity that was freed in soul Wars. The text is somewhat hard to read but it can be done.

So my belief that the narrator for " The Tithe" will be a new character seems to be more likely, also it appears that Order aligned gargants are, or where, a thing. Meanwhile Sigmar does all the heavy lifting the Elves continue to plot behind everybody's back.

it may not be a new character.

it could be dieter helschnit.

also, the gargants are a plot device. a group of them guard the Anvil of Apotheosis. they are used to show importance of an object or place. "look at what's guarding that, must be important."

why would it be dieter? This thing was some shadow monster thing with tentacles, not a "human" necromancer.

And yeah, the titan gargant things are just there to show off how dangerous the trapped monster is. Of course they might eventually introduce them, god knows SCE doesn't have enough troops yet. But here they're very much just there to make the monster look cool.

Also, gotta love aelves, constantly complaining about people doing stuff the "wrong" way and abusing their gifts but doing nothing whatsoever themselves. Warhammer aelves are weird..

Question for the lore experts:
Could it be possible that Kemmler lived?

I can hardly imagine it. He did betray Nagash didn't he? So Nagash wouldn't bring him back to raise an army. Or would he? And maybe change him into something weird just because he can?

The last time we saw Dieter, he was a formless, shapeless mass of black magic/death magic tentacles, similar to how the evil trapped in the stormvault is described.

Crackpot theory: Settra's soul was split in two at the sundering of the world. one is deluded and see's nagash as his master, the other became settrus after sigmar whisked him away for reforging. Even though he was only half a soul, settra's iron will allowed for that half to be reforged.

I reject your theory.

Settra does not serve. Settra rules!

If it's the one gods be damned chance we have to get my beloved tomb kings re-released for sale or, ptra be praised, new models, I'd sell out.
I would not sell out. My heart is pure. I do not serve.

It also helps that I have literally every Tomb Kings model in my collection already. GW has no dominion over me.

Jealous

I am missing a few models for my Lizardmen:

Lord Kroak

Tiqtakto
Bastiladon - Ark of Sotek (could build?)
Razordon
Terradons
Troglodon
Mazdumundi

I have the rest but I’ll get them eventually :(
