Saurus horde painting coming up. Need opinions please.

Hey all,

So in short I have recently came into 80 saurus warriors and 20 guard. I am wondering if anyone has any quick easy contrast painted warriors I could use as a reference while picking my paint scheme?

Warriors I’m not 100% on the scheme I want to go with so any pictures would be helpful. I know I would like something other than the dark blue scheme so it will be easier to tell my guard and warriors apart on the table. If they are ever fielded together.

Guard I already have 15 painted previously and wondering if any knows what contrast colors would resemble the standard dark blue scheme the most? My current ones are painted like the one from the artwork on our BT

I'm afraid I don't have any photos, but I have played around with the contrast paints in my local GW store.

Naturally, I would do a test model first (which I ALWAYS forget to do). My suggestion would be:

-Prime in Grey Seer (new contrast primer) which I hear is very good.
-Next, a couple of thinned layers of Temple Guard Blue (traditional layer paint). It will probably take a couple of layers to get a nice coat.
-Next I would wash the skin in Akhelian Green (contrast paint) & Contrast Medium at 1:1. It's a nice dark blue-green that you can use somewhat like a traditional wash.
-Then I would wash the scales in Ultramarines Blue (contrast paint) & Contrast Medium at 1:1.
-Finally, I'd probably go with a light dry brush of Temple Guard Blue over at least the skin to bring back the highlights.
I think that should give you colors similar to the box art (with the turquoise skin & dark blue scales).

Optionally:
-Prime in Grey Seer
-Try Talassar Blue (contrast paint) over the Grey Seer primer for the skin. But it is a very bright "true blue".
-Then do Ultramarines Blue (contrast paint) & Contrast Medium at 1:1. I recommend the medium b/c Ultramarines is a rather dark and heavily pigmented navy blue. Cutting it with some medium should lighten it a bit.
-I'd still probably try a light dry brush of Temple Guard Blue for the skin.

I'm sure others might have more accurate suggestions, but I hope this helps!

Thanks for the info I’ll do a few test models once I start them.
 
20190723_104334.jpg You shouldn't have trouble. I've been working on 26 at once with contrast and it saves a lot of time. The skin on these is just terradon blue over wraith bone. Shields are blood angels red then once it's dry another coat of skeleton horde to shade the recesses. Going to pick out scales and teeth then they'll be virtually done!

Very cool thank you for the info. I am still working on my Flesh Eaters right now but the saurus are coming soon and I'm looking forward to it.
