You always roll from the list. The errata changed last two results. Here is the new EotGs table and its effects:

– Engine of the Gods, Cosmic Engine Change the 14-17 result to: ‘You can summon 1 unit from the list below to the battlefield, and add it to your army. The summoned unit must be set up wholly within 12" of this model and more than 9" from any enemy units. The summoned unit cannot move in the following movement phase.
• 20 Skinks
• 10 Saurus Warriors
• 3 Ripperdactyls
• 3 Terradons’

– Engine of the Gods, Cosmic Engine Change the 18+ result to: ‘Time crawls to a halt around your army. For the rest of the turn, double the Move characteristic of all friendly Seraphon models and double the Attacks characteristic of all weapons used by friendly Seraphon models.’

Man I wish they'd finally give us the new Battletome.
Nothing against you, @Nicky Hudson , but we get a lot of questions here that refer to something that was changed on the warscrolls ages ago, but it is hard to always have all the FAQs, errata and whatnot ready.
It sucks.
(At least there is the app for the warscrolls, but IMO that doesn't replace a good battletome)

Ok I think I just missed the point of your question.
The answer is: no you can't. You have to use the one you rolled.
If you could pick a lower one then the warscroll would have to tell you.

Edit: and yes that means you could roll a result that does nothing at all in that particular situation.
That's why having a Slann near is important. That way you can move the result a bit up or down to get something usable.

Okay thank you very much for clearing that up, I was trying to make a list based on the big Dino's and healing them all as much as I can but this makes it hard, cheers!

Thunderquake + Slann + new healing spell + emerald life swarm would be the goto list for healing though.

Not sure if it is worth it though, the healing isn't that good I guess.
