AoS Dread Saurian Build

I figured the oldblood on carno can be the dreads buddy when he charges in. Not a competitive build definitely but is it decent? (Btw the command points aren’t valid this is for 1500 points.

I’ve got a dread and never played him (or painted him) but always have wanted to, I think though if/when I do so - I’ll be summoning him in, his points are crazy high, id rather have Kroak/cogs etc + just imagine the opponents face when turn 2/3 you pop that badass on the board (providing there’s room) priceless

I did the math, with a perfect set up you can pop him on turn 2, HOWEVER ive also done the math on placing him... you have to place him sideways, Base to base with the slann/AB and have literally nothing in front of the slann/AB for 20" and nothing to the 30 degree arc left and right for 16". there can be bascially no terrain inside of the summoning zone (maybe a hill or a forest, but no ruins or city scapes of any sort) due to his base size essentially being a piece of printer paper (8.5"x 11") trimmed into an oval....

Sadly the Dread is not as awesome in game as the model itself looks. The damage output is almost always overkill against monsters/behemoths and it loses the trade with hordes. That being said, it is very strong vs Gristlegore FEC if you are able to keep momentum.

mine came in a few weeks ago, I have it partially assembled (I left the armor plating off so I could prime it a different color to facilitate painting... which I haven't gotten around to yet lol) I have used it in some casual games and one LGS event, I found it to be great at destroying hordes (provided I fight with it before the horde does) keeping its handlers close (a starpriest and priest) for double jaw damage and re roll saves, and -1 to be hit (summon starlight) its pretty durable, and can be teleported out for a turn if you need to heal (d3 a round).

Could you expound on how the DS is strong against Gristlegore?

He gains bonuses from attacking other monsters (re-roll 1s to hit and wound) which is great on his big damage attack’s (that are on 3s)

Yeah, I know about that, but how would you protect against Gristlegore's ability to attack first?

The Dread works vs Gristlegore for killing the Royal Zombie Dragons & Terrorgheist. You need to shoot the Ghoulking first though to remove his command ability for the after death pile in if you are concerned about being tiered. However, there are much better ways to deal with Gristlegore than a Dreadsaurian.

I would consider a Slann with Vast Intellect, rather than Great Rememberer.
Curse of Fate just works great with DS.
buff the guy with CoF, Summon Starlight and Serpents' staff, then teleport it and enjoy the move on a 4+, and only a nat. 1 will ruin your day.
If you roll a 2 or 3 with LoSaT, use the cogs and you will only need a 5 for a successful charge. And one of its bites in the combat, will trigger double damage by the serpents' staff with a 5+.

Out of the two traits you will gain the most for the Dreadsaurian from Vast Intellect. However, having two LoSaT per your herophase can win games on its own. If you want to buff up the DS to maximum brutality then take VI.
