Aquaman is a very good movie, I now distrust Rotten Tomatoes

Brie Larson doesn't even deserve to be in The Phantom Menace. You would place her alongside Ewan McGregor, Ian McDiarmid and Liam Neeson? ;)

Heath Ledger's Joker will probably never be beat. However, this looks like a different take on the character and I think it is an origin story of sorts. As such, it won't be in direct competition with Ledger's Joker.

I'm not sure if it will turn out to be good, but I am excited to give it a try.
Heath Ledger is probably the best performance of the Joker, but I’d still say that Mark Hamil is a better Joker overall, in the same way that Christian Bale is a brilliant Batman, but Kevin Conroy is the Batman.

I hope it fails big time! Boycott!!

Forgive me for being a bit behind but, errr, why?

I was referring to live action characters. It's much more tricky to compare an animated character to the live action version. In my opinion, no one has been able to match Heath Ledger in terms of a live action portrayal of the Joker.

Do you mean in relation to the boycott or in relation to Brie Larson not deserving to be in The Phantom Menace?

General hatred for Captain Marvel

SJW marketing of the film
SJW comments by Brie Larson (there have been a few)
Disdain for what Captain Marvel might mean for the MCU (same path as Star Wars)
The trailers look really boring
Brie Larson can't act very well

Here are some...

First two I get, the third, while I get where you are coming from, at first glance it seems more like “oh no, Marvel are using female empowerment to add appeal to their first female character focused film, the horror, the horror”. Perhaps a bit cheaty, but hardly a crime.

You are absolutely right that on its own it is not that big of a deal. However, I'm not looking at it in isolation and even small drops in bucket eventually fill the bucket. It's just another warning light going off in what is a sea of warning lights. I add it to the content of the first two clips I provided. I add it to what Disney has done to Star Wars. I even consider other Hollywood productions (even when they were not produced by Disney), like the dumpster fire that was 2016 Ghostbusters.

I learn from the past and apply it to the future. If you had shown me that very same Captain Marvel trailer 10 years ago the "a HERo" thing might not have bothered me at all. But I've analyzed the trends and I can see ahead of time where this is likely to go. If Captain Marvel is a financial success it will only spur them on further. Just like an election, I only get my vote, in this case I vote with my wallet. If am alone on this, then my efforts will be in vain, but if enough like minded people join together and avoid the movie they will eventually the message. The almighty dollar eventually wins the day. If Hollywood is forced to choose between virtue signalling and profit, then eventually (and begrudgingly) profit will prevail!

That said, even if you remove the SJW stuff from the trailer & promotion (the movie admittedly could turn out differently) it looks like a poor man's Green Lantern (which was already a dismal film on its own).

Of course if this sort of stuff doesn't bother you or you can look past it or the movie looks amazing to you, then you can cast your vote opposite to mine. We all get our votes.

Green Lantern was bad for unrelated reasons, I think, Captain Marvel still has many unknowns but the acting in Green Lantern wasn't wooden, it was campy which is the opposite problem.

Captain Marvel looks like we are going to die of thirst while Green Lantern tried to drown us. It wasn't really that Green Lantern was bad (okay the two villains were pretty bad) but mostly GL was boring and by the numbers.

Anyway, I'm putting a cork in speculation on Captain Marvel that is kind of derailing the thread. I am willing to reserve judgment until it comes out. I tend to watch almost all movies on half-price Tuesday, so me voting with my wallet won't have a big impact.
