Hello from a Kill Team Heretic!

Hey everyone!

This seemed to be the only dedicated Seraphon place I could find (no dedicated subreddit seemed odd!).

I'm coming over from Kill Team and what can I say... I just like our scaly boys! Don't get me wrong, I am 100% going to start this journey by proxying and converting a bunch of saurus into 40K models because what's better than lizards with swords than lizards with guns? But eventually I AM going to be picking up some cool stuff that isn't for Kill Team. I think what gave me the big push was the upcoming seraphon battlebox. I was thinking 1-2 of them and then 1-2 of the SC. Thoughts on that?

Oh, also, I have no idea about rules purchases... do I only need battletome seraphon or do I need the grand alliance Order and the Chapter Approved too?

I’m interested in the idea of 40K Lizardmen - who do you intend to use them as in Kill Team?

I think in terms of rules the Battletome is a good reference piece for lore and profiles but you’ll also need the General’s Handbook for points values and allegiance abilities and Storm of Magic 2.0, AKA Malign Sorcery, because Seraphon are incredibly magic-based. Luckily you don’t need to buy the Core Book as you can just use the free rules PDF and you’ll be fine (which is a good job because the cover art of the Core Book is abominable). I’m more of a Fyreslayers man myself but both Fyreslayers and Seraphon are in the same boat being two of the oldest armies around (although I won’t need to buy Malign Sorcery because Fyreslayers play with fickle magic ).

I certainly would like to see your Lizardmen kitbashes or conversions with guns.

Most of the rules for Age of Sigmar are available for free (legally with GW's permission) online. The war scrolls have all the stats for all the Seraphon and all the other factions too.

While the stats for the various units remained unchanged, the points values of said units do get periodically revised. So you'll want to find the most recent iteration of the General's Compendium which is basically a catalog for the points value of everything.

The Seraphon battle tome is mostly fluff. The stats blocks are the same as the free war scrolls online. The points are not listed because you still need the General's Compendium. The one thing the Seraphon book has is rules for that you cannot get elsewhere is battalions which in the Seraphon's case is called Starhosts. There is a very detailed thread on these here. You can probably get by without buying the Seraphon book because the Starhosts only make up about five pages of actual rules.

The Grand Alliance Order book is unnecessary. It is useful to have all the rules in one place BUT you can get those same rules for free on the internet.

And I only need the General's Handbook 2018, right? Not the 2017? And when will the next one be released? Feb?
And the Malign Sorcery book, okay gotcha. And yeah, the one major thing that I forgot to mention in my original post was that if I had one negative about lizardy boys, it would be how old the models are :'(

I haven't fully decided. I'm not sure if I want to make them lizardmen with guns or if I want to make them space marines with lizard heads and spears on their back. I'll have to give it more thought, but I'm putting together an Eldar team right now, then I want to do a chaos team.

Because that's what people meme it as, and I'll be honest that doesn't really do anything for me...

Yes you only need the 2018 one. As for when the 2019 one will be out, I have no idea - I don’t think it will be for a while yet though, certainly not until after Moonclan, Darkoath and Slaanesh have arrived.

Because that's what people meme it as, and I'll be honest that doesn't really do anything for me...

I would check out the fluff forum

The fluff forum has been around many years before Age of Sigmar existed but we are working on developing new Seraphon fluff for Age of Sigmar just like we did for Lizardmen in the World that Was (because many of thought the fluff was underdeveloped back then too).
