With Saurus Guard counting as battleline, how are you using Saurus - if at all?

Are they useful as anvils in big blocks? Summoning? Objective holders?

If you use them, how do you maximize their effectiveness?

I pretty much only use them within an Eternal Starhost or at least with an Eternity Warden.

Also you will need something that can shoot or deepstrike, to try and prevent enemies from using mortal wounds against the Guard by killing units that can dish out mortal wounds well. Mortal Wounds are their Kryptonite.

Against everything else Saurus Guard are really good, especially for defense as their bataillon gives them benefits if they don't move.

Park them on an objective and watch the waves of Chaos break upon them

Especially if you use Summon Starlight on them so the enemy has -1 on the hit rolls. Quite some units cannot do mortal wounds then.

heres looking at you retributors and your 2 mortals on 6+!

I wonder if Lens made Guard more viable in this edition, as it mitigates their main weakness. Emerald Lifeswarm also can return slain Guard and numerous -1 to-hit spells will deny mortal wounds that triggered on 6+. Not that this solves all Guard problems (Skaven will still destroy Guard-based lists), but it definitely got better.

Lens on warden, form a palisade of guard around the slann....def smart

I think they really got better with the new edition. For example you can initially play without them but summon some Guard later if you see them fit.
