MREs.... as far as I remember they contained some surprisingly tasty stuff.

Actually, they are quite good. The quality has improved in the years since I first joined.

It is not devoid of protein. Meat isn't the only source of protein. Besides, it's not that hard to get enough protein throughout the day.

I normally don't prep food for work. I just go and fetch some Doner Kebab or Pizza, or a Salad. Like today.

50 weeks in ayear excluding normal 2 weeks paid leave = $1250

No worries. I'd rather take Sunday and make lunches and put the money I'd be spending into a savings account, but I respect your choice.
