About 10 years ago i painted some Lizardmen since I loved the looks of them, but quit since I didn't have the money to continue. I never played any matches, but even from a young age I loved playing strategic war games (still do).

In the near future it looks like Il have some time, I was thinking of bringing this hobby back to life, not just painting but hopefully playing also.

So I've been looking back and fourth of the current games, fantasy, AoS, 40k, 9th, KoW and so on, and wanted some help deciding. Personally I love the aesthetics of the Seraphon/Lizardmen so Il prob choose fantasy or AoS. (I don't have a local scene it seams, but I have friends willing to try, AoS seams to be good for this purpose.)

AoS seams quite easy to get into witch is good, since Il learn how to play and can easily recruit others, but I've also seen alot of people complaining that it's not as "deep" a game, witch I also understand. What are your opinions fellow residents of Lustria?

When I play I usually like to be tactical and win by good strategy, I've read some concerning post about how Seraphon play, do you think this should be a concern?

I have way too many questions, Il start here and keep asking :D

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

If you are a new player and you want to do more than paint, you need a reliable group of people to play against.

Whatever game line has opportunities in your local area is what you should probably seek to play. If you use rectangular bases you can play 9th Age, 8th edition, Age of Sigmar, or Kings of War, but if very few people in your area play any of those games, you are likely to be disappointed.

Ideally you should pick a game that your core friends will play and that you can find a few people outside your core friend group willing to play periodically. If you have new players joining with you, watch the enthusiasm of your other new players. It takes a lot of time to get an army together, let alone painted, so the hobby has an attrition rate for casually interested players.

As long as you have a reliable network of players, it doesn't matter what game you play...as long as you play an army with Aztec themed reptiles riding dinosaurs into battle.

Thanks for the welcome and response!

So I've looked up forums and such, and in my city there is almost no Warhammer stuff (so one is just as bad as the other), so most likly I will start this community (I have with other games so It's doable). I don't live way too far of the capital of Norway where there is some AoS activity it seams.

I also thought about buying the starter box with dice, measuring and some Stormcast eternals and Khorne units to introduce my friends. This way I can check if they like the game + il have 2 "guest armies" if people visit and want to test the game.

Welcome!

Sounds good to me. If you have small armies available to show people the game the virus might catch on indeed!

About the systems: Yes, AoS is easily accessible and it is maintained, which is a plus of course. I even think it doesn't really lack depth. Maybe compared to some systems out there, but there are still enough elements making it hard to master that I am pretty sure you can have years of fun learning and playing. Of course it varies from army to army, but with our lizards you picked a very versatile one.

And yes, Seraphon are not exactly the strongest army in AoS. But if you play smart you can compete. And the new General's Handbook 2017 (to be released soon) will probably give us some more abilities to work with and hopefully raise our power level a bit again.

As for finding players: In Norway I imagine it could really be hard to find players since people will have to spend a lot of money for a big army because everything is so damn expensive in your country (I've visited Norway a few times. Loved it every time but the prices for some stuff blow you away. I didn't even check for Warhammer stuff but I'd guess the luxury tax makes everything about double the price as here in Germany.)
And of course there are not too many people living there. The Oslo area is pretty much the only one that comes fairly close to the population density here (This is one of the rare occasions I am happy to live in a densely populated country. :D) So if you can start a community that's perfect!

Maybe AOS Skirmish might be an easier introduction as you need fewer models.

I'm mostly a painter and to be honest it is by far the best aspect of the hobby in my opinion so if you do choose that path you won't be alone.

Welcome aboard and stick your head in the Painting section for some inspiration while you ponder your gaming future.

Wow, more respons! AWESOME!

Aginor - The prices are too damn high! I've just finished my studies and going to get a job. In a while I can hopefully start up some old hobbies :D
And by the little i know and what I've read I also agree on your viewpoints about AoS. I've watchd 20+ battlereports on youtube for AoS, 10+ Fantasy, around 3 for 9th. In AoS i worry abit about the double turn thingy and the change in the fluff (love Lizard lore). But I think AoS will be a good fit :D.

Crowsfoot & n810 - Yea I was thinking of skirmish aswell for learing the rules well! I loved painting 10 years ago and hope i will now :D, I've been lurking this last week on the forums reading all kinds of stuff, also on the colour schemes! I've been thinking hard and using the online tool for some expirimentation ^u^.

I also love that Lizardmen got their own forum, holy shit I was happy when i found it and maaaaaaaaan I love the banner pictures.

You have to thank @The Red Devil for the banner artwork the artist he commissioned did a fantastic job.

And if @The Red Devil is the man to thank, I will! THANK YOU! THE BANNERS ARE SUPER COOL! Is it possible to get the pictures somewhere? Wonder if it can be used as a background for a dual screen monitor setup :D

Red Devil paid a fair chunk of money to commission the banner art and is the legal owner of it. He does not want others using the banner art for their own purposes. Sorry.
