sadly his weakness is the color yellow. :P

Well, at least I too gave my vote to Green Lantern! :p
This is true.

A golden top hat is awarded to you as well...

Somewhat. His weakness is fear, and yellow is the representation of fear.

Over the years there is a great deal of variation as to how his weakness plays out. But it is definitely not the case that someone could put on a yellow banana suit and defeat him.

Even champions of yellow/fear (Sinestro, Parallax) have been defeated by Hal Jordan, so I don't think that it stands as an insurmountable weakness.

There is some really weird stuff in old school comics. I think everyone can agree that the pictures depicted above are no longer representative of Green Lantern's current canonical power level.

For instance, I think that most people who are choosing Batman do not have this guy in mind:

But, Now we know why his belt and bat signal logo are canary yellow? ;) Always wondered.

Best Batman ever! :)

This is a tough one.

Are we assuming that each one of these super heroes will team up with whomever they were friends/on a team, or will operate alone and with the resources and powers immediately at their disposal?

For instance, take Wolverine (definitely one of my top FAN choices, but I am trying to be more analytical about this):

wolverine.jpg

- By himself, he would put up a tremendous fight, but ultimately would probably be taken down by several of the other top-tier supers on this list, making him a low-level pick

x-men-apocalypse-other-possible-characters-141112.jpg

- BUT if you throw in his allegiance with the rest of the X-Men (including potentially any number of their enemies or villain characters, because half the time they wind up siding with the X-Men for various plot reasons), Wolverine could have the potential to amass a small army of some of the most powerful mutants on the planet (Professor X, Iceman, Jean Gray/Phoenix and many others) who have a great deal more firepower behind them, and could move Wolverine to a low-level pick to a much higher spot on the list.

EDIT: pictures added to demonstrate the difference...

Superman is going to be a problem even if you choose Batman. Sure Batman has beat him, but that mainly occurs because Superman isn't really trying to kill Batman.

Ah, yes, the famous fight in "Dark Knight...".
Batman was specifically prepared for the fight against Supes, he planned it. In the end he losed (it was contemplated, but still).
And Superman was heavily restraining himself from the fight.

The unsaid rule was: no other reinforcements.
Otherwise Green Lantern could call all the other GLs...

Precisely. I wish I had thought to explicitly add it to the rules ahead of time.

In that case, best bets are in my opinion:

#5) Batman (because of all his plans, the batcave is awesome, and because he is BATMAN and WAAAAY more experienced at straight up marshal arts than Iron Man, and is probably the single best superhero equipped and prepared to take down #2 Superman)

#4) Green Lantern (because of his imagination and power that it brings)

#3) Wonder Woman (because of her sheer power, and I also second @Crowsfoot 's reason)

#2) Superman (because he is Superman and nigh unbeatable, and the fortress of solitude is pretty cool too but not as cool-looking as the batcave)

but my top choice would be:

#1) Flash.

Simply because every other superhero acting on the defensive would have an insurmountable problem that only the Flash has the potential to overcome: what happens when all the other superheros attack... at the same time?

In movies the good guy often fights a whole flock of bad guys, but each of the baddies normally pile on one at a time, maybe two or three at most.

A single hero against 9 other SUPER POWERED individuals, who coordinate their efforts to take him down ahead of time? I am sure between Batman and Ironman they could come up with a concentrated, unbeatable plan, backed up with the rest of the super-powered individuals to overcome any odds. Unless the foe they were up against had the ability to be many places at once, with is essentially what the Flash has the ability to do thanks to his super speed.

And as a final example, I give you what a similarly-powered super hero was able to do, right under the nose of two of the most powerful individuals of their universe, with very little effort on his part, and with no help from either of them (movie is X-Men Days of Future Past, if you haven't seen it I recommend it!):

Magneto, Wolverine, even the most powerful psyker/mind-reader/mind-controller mutant on the planet could do nothing to stop this guy, and he wasn't even really trying.

Only one who could possibly stand up to the Flash is Superman (maybe, possibly, even ol' Supe isn't that fast), and that's only if he gets to him before the Flash steals the kryptonite in Batman's utility belt first.
