Gallery Warden's Art Thread

Got a few more images of samurai Lizardmen, though nothing compete.
This one is a skink warrior: an askinkagu warrior from the Usuji Clan.

Also had this earlier WIP skink, but he didn't turn out like I wanted. In fact the mini-sketch turned out way better proportioned. Need to revisit this one at a later date.

Funny you mention samurai models. I definitely need to check out bushido Ito Clan at some point.

There is an amazing army out there based around the Samurai Lizardmen theme, an older one by Warhead.

Love there black-yellow and red color scheme. If I ever modelled these guys it would be something like on these pages.

dude wow some day i will need to make a cohesive army like that but you should really post this in the art gallery give more people a look at this wonderful work

@Warden lovely works. But most of all I appreciate that you cross your Z's.

My handwriting is bad enough as it is... its the only way to tell them apart from an "s" half the time...

Now that my reviews are done, at the moment I have a few art projects lined up mixed in with the fluff writing machine, including this quick sketch based on the current ongoing short story contest:

daemon of Tlax_sketch.jpg

You can kind of see the skink stick-figure in the lower right-hand corner, and the other skink held up in the daemon's tentacles. Based on the threat that showed up in Tlax in the short story The Ritual of Words Yet Unvoiced. Working on a colored version next, I just need to get a new outliner pen first...

This sounds like something that should be entered into *coughs loudly @spawning of Bob* the next art competition

Too late! Already finished this one: the Doom of Tlax

Doom of Tlax.jpg

I didn't see a name for this creature, so that should suffice for a title for now.

The final piece wound up very similar in theme to the tiny post-it note sketch I posted previously. The medium used was just basic colored pencil with ink again, although for this one it probably would have looked better with solid colors (something from photoshop or some other program), or even straight up paint. This is one I would consider redoing in paint sometime, I really enjoyed putting it together! Sorry for the light glare on the picture too...

I hope it conveys what I was going for: the daemonic-tentacle creature facing off against the skinks Panquetzl (with the spear) and Zeltin (in its tendrils) on the steps of the Ritual Temple, just as the time of the Ritual is coming to its climax, and the ghosts of the Fall of Tlax do battle in the epic panoramic in the background.

As soon as I read the short story, I was reminded of Pride from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, a creepy and dangerous enemy.
pride.jpg

I hope my pic depicted just how creepy I thought this bad guy was in the short story The Ritual of Words Yet Unvoiced; a creature with innumerable tentacles for legs, a black body with no arms, and a face with a smile but no eyes...

After all why does chaos need eyes? it can see everything anyway...

There was also a picture from the newest Lizardmen book showing a bunch of terradons flying around the very high temples of Tlax. I don't have the book with me, but the memory of it was the inspiration for the high-stepped temples in the background. Also I really enjoyed drawing the "army blocks" in the background, having explosions and lightning being rained on them. Almost like a Warhammer battle! :D

Awesome stuff! I actually don´t think your skink is unproportioned, you just gave him human feet instaed of skink feet ;)

Thanks, I didn't notice that I had done that with his feet. I need to go back and redo him though, but I have too many other projects lined up at the moment!

This looks so awesome! Definitely captured the creepiness of the creature in my mind. The only difference when I was picturing it was it had a mask like no face from spirited away, only more like hexadecimals from reboot, which was also the voice I assigned to the tentacle creature.

This constriction around it's neck (I think it's the neck...) makes it look a bit funny in a certain way... as a classmate told me... he was saying something about bbc or so... guess it reminded him of a microphone, as he is singing in a metal band... ;):p

Joke aside... really nice pieces of art you show here! I like your style.

It looks like something out of H.P Lovecraft's work... maybe a Formless Spawn?

Thanks for the compliments! It does look a bit like a formless spawn... except more cartoony.

Completed this picture!

Askingkagu from the Usuji Clan.

I am happy with this one, but still wish I had made him a saurus instead. In my mind the original art would have been better suited for a crusty and gnarly saurus champion, rather than a rather heroic looking skink. Still turned out good, even though this skink isn't nearly downtrodden enough for the Dragon Isles!

Another sketch I put together the other night, of another saurmurai warrior.

IMG_2114.JPG

based on this artwork of a Takeda Samurai warrior. I hope to do a color version very similar to this one.

Full practice sketches. Most ended in failure.

individual sketches. This was the head I wound up using for the actual drawing.

Plus two cold-one options. I chose the creepier looking one, but I might wind up using the Godzilla version for another piece of artwork.

And here was a quick, two-minute area sketch to lay out what I wanted the drawing to look like before I did the full size thing.
