Renewing the trials:
As mentioned in the Golden Slann contest here's what I'd like to try with the trails of the old ones and get more of you sculpting and converting again.
Moving Forward
I'm looking at shifting focus to the future, I was having a read of some of my old White Dwarf magazines the other day and came across an old series of articles they did called "The Tale Of Four Gamers", I really liked it, the goals of it being that every month the four staffers involved where given £20 and in that month had to buy and/or paint models for a fantasy army. It was done to encourage other gamers to paint their armies as there was a big trend at the time of people fielding unpainted armies, or with the generic "three colours minimum".
I love the idea behind this as it shows people it's easier to paint something than they might think and work on the "little and often" approach. Little bits here and there quickly add up.
With that being said, here's what I'd like to propose (and ALL feedback is welcome here, I want to encourage not some, not a few, but ALL OF YOU to sculpt more). I am CERTAIN I can get all of you sculpting from scratch, even if some of you have doubts or reservations, I'm still fully in the belief that life as a whole enforces people with a underlying notion that leaves them selling themselves short.
Obviously I do want to stress that there is no obligation, last thing I want is for this to become a chore, rather than something you genuinely want to try your hand at.
The Tale Of Four Gamers:
Rules are as follows (this will likely change depending on peoples' feedback and ideas).
- Every month you set yourself ONE goal (sculpting, paint or converting).
- Make sure this goal is actually LESS than you think you could complete (if you think with the time you have available for that month you could completely paint two units, set your goal for one, it allows for other things happening and gives you a little extra time to put in to that unit/project).
- You get to pick your own goal each month, you're not working off a pre-determined task for something you don't do/include in your army.
The Wild Card
At the start of every three month period I will be announcing the Wild Card.
- The wild card will be made up of three sculpting/converting challenges, one for each month.
- Each challenge will be a flexible one (so it could be for example, "sculpt a weapon" it doesn't stress on the type of weapon).
- At the end of the three month period, everyone who has completed the wild card challenge for that period will be entered into a poll.
- The winner will then get to choose a detailed conversion/sculpt for me to complete over the next three months. (FYI, asking me to scratch build something has to be reasonable, as it can take a long time..that means no dread saurians, carnosaurs, monsters, Kroxigors, Slann, or Lord Kroaks).
- All sculpts/heavy conversions that I complete in the Wild card challenge will then become prizes in the Golden Slann Contests.
